What’s New in the 2025/26 FPL Bonus Points System?

The FPL Bonus Points System (BPS) plays a major role in Fantasy Premier League, often separating green arrows from red. It ranks players based on in-game performance stats provided by Opta, rewarding the top three performers in each match with three, two, or one bonus point.
Tiebreakers remain the same – tied players share points depending on their BPS rank.
Now let’s dive into what’s changed:
Bonus Point Tie Rules
When players finish a match with the same BPS score, the bonus points are shared as follows:
- Tie for first place: Both players receive three bonus points each, and the next eligible player gets one point.
- Tie for second place: The highest-ranked player earns three points, while the two tied players each get two points.
- Tie for third place: The top two players receive three and two points as usual, and the remaining players tied for third each receive one bonus point.
These tie-break rules ensure fair distribution of bonus points, especially in tightly contested matches.
Goalkeeper Saves: Shot Location Now Matters
- Previously, all saves gave +2 BPS, regardless of difficulty.
- Now:
- +3 BPS for saving a shot from inside the box
- +2 BPS for a shot from outside the box
- Penalty saves drop slightly from +9 to +8 BPS, but paired with the in-box save bonus, still yield a hefty +11 BPS total.
Goal line Clearances Get a Huge Boost
- Massive jump from +3 BPS to +9 BPS
- Reflects the critical impact these moments can have on a match

Penalty Goals Treated Separately
- New BPS rule gives all players +12 BPS for scoring a penalty
- In past seasons:
- Forwards got +24 BPS
- Midfielders +18 BPS
- Defenders +12 BPS
- Non-penalty goals still use the old scale – no change there
Tackles Simplified (and Buffed)
- Old rule: 2 BPS per “Net Successful Tackle” (Tackles Won – Tackles Lost)
- New rule: 2 BPS for each “Tackle Won”, regardless of how many are lost
- Easier for defensive-minded players to consistently earn bonus points
These FPL Bonus Points System Changes for 2025/26 should give more weight to crucial on-pitch moments and make bonus point awards fairer and more predictable. Time to reassess who really brings value to your FPL squad this season.
