West Ham Top Picks for FPL 2024/25

Last modified date

Fantasy Premier League has launched for another season. For that reason we continue to cover each team in the build up to the start of the new campaign. In this article we take a look at the West Ham top picks for FPL 2024/25.

Picking out the West Ham top picks for FPL 2024/25 could be really helpful for managers. The Hammers could be one of several teams with the potential to offer some great value for money assets this season, so let’s see what we can find.

West Ham had another solid campaign in their 23/24 Premier League season. The Hammers managed to secure a 9th placed position under long-term manager David Moyes. That finish wasn’t enough for West Ham who cut ties with Moyes and brought in Julen Lopetegui for the new season.

Fixtures

Below we can see the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture ticker based on the first six Gameweeks. We can also see that West Ham sit 13th on the ticker with fixtures against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Fulham, Chelsea and Brentford.

West Ham Defence

West Ham finished inside the top 10 but their defence maintained some awful metrics, ranking (best):

  • 17th – Goals conceded
  • 18th – Expected goals conceded
  • 16th – Clean sheets kept
  • 16th – Total shots in the box
  • 17th – Total shots conceded
  • 18th – Total shots on target conceded
  • 18th – Big chances conceded

Comparing the West Ham Defensive Assets

Let’s take a look at how their defensive assets stack up against each other.

When we compare gametime we can see that full-back Emerson Palmieri (£4.5m) played the most minutes last season with 3137. Opposite full-back Vladimir Coufal (£4.5m) wasn’t far behind as he played 3129 minutes.

Centre-back Kurt Zouma (£4.5m) came close to the 3000 minute mark whilst goalkeeper Alphonse Areola (£4.5m) played 2700 minutes.

Centre-back Nayef Agued (£4.5m) played just 1858 minutes mostly due to injury.

The full-backs also dominate when comparing attacking threat. Coufal bagged an impressive seven assists last season whilst Emerson banked one goal and four assists.

The only other defensive asset to pick up more than one attacking return was Zouma who hit three.

Additional Notes

West Ham recently signed centre-back Max Kilman (£4.5m) from Wolves and he has started three of their four pre-season friendlies.

Another player who seems to be racking up the minutes in pre-season is centre-back Konstantinos Mavroponas (£4.5m) who also started three of their four pre-season games.

Conclusion

Based on both minutes, attacking threat and squad depth in other positions the standout defensive asset could well be Vladimir Coufal. Coufal could even play in a wing-back system if the the new manager sticks with his pre-season tactics which could give him even more potential.

Alternatively, on the opposite flank, Emerson has also managed similar minutes and attacking threat so could also be a great pick.

It could be a case of monitoring the goalkeepers and centre-backs early on to determine who is playing more minutes.

West Ham Attack

Although woeful in terms of their defensive data West Ham maintained better attacking data, ranking:

  • 8th – Goals scored
  • 13th – Expected goals
  • 16th – Total attempts on goal
  • 14th – Total shots in the box
  • 14th – Big chances total
  • 16th – Total shots on target

Comparing the West Ham Attackers

One of two players to play 3000+ minutes last season was Jarrod Bowen (£7.5m). The other was fellow midfielder James Ward-Prowse (£6.5m).

Tomas Soucek (£5m) played the second most minutes with 2885 whilst fellow central midfielder Lucas Paqueta (6m) follows just behind with 2623 minutes.

Completing the top five players for gametime was midfielder Mohammed Kudus (£6.5m) who missed a considerable amount of features due to both injury and the African Cup of Nations.

When comparing attacking threat we can see that Jarrod Bowen sits at the top of the pile after producing 22 attacking returns last season.

Interestingly Mohammed Kudus played less gametime than other attackers but still racked up 17 attacking returns.

Both James Ward-Prowse and Lucas Paqueta banked double-digits and were the only other attackers to achieve that.

Additional Notes

West Ham signed former Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug. The German impressed in his recent EURO 2024 campaign after producing 12 goals and eight assists in 29 Bundesliga features. Fullkrug also banked three goals and three assists in his recent Champions League campaign.

Conclusion

After comparing all of the West Ham attackers the standout pick is still Jarrod Bowen. Bowen dominates both gametime and attacking returns on a regular basis for the Hammers.

Another fantastic option is Mohammed Kudus who was extremely effective with his minutes last season. Kudus is also £1m cheaper than Bowen.

Set piece taker James Ward Prowse also impressed for both minutes and gametime so he could be a good potential.

West Ham Top Picks

After comparing all players for both minutes and attacking potential the West Ham Top Picks for FPL 2024/25 are:

  • Jarrod Bowen
  • Mohammed Kudus
  • Vladimir Coufal
  • Emerson Palmieri
  • James Ward-Prowse
