UCL Fantasy Matchday 8 Best Wildcard Team
In this article we continue our Champions League coverage by producing the UCL Fantasy Matchday 8 best Wildcard team. To do this we take into account several factors including fixture difficulty, team and player form and statistics.
The Wildcard is one of two chips provided by UCL Fantasy to give fantasy managers a boost. The Wildcard allows its user to make as many permanent changes as possible until the upcoming deadline. For that reason the Wildcard is seen as the most powerful chip.
Best Wildcard Team
Notes:
- UCL Fantasy managers receive unlimited transfers in Matchday 9, so the Wildcard will be used to target the Matchday 8 fixtures alone.
- UCL Fantasy managers will also get access to every line-up ahead of the Matchday 8 deadline. So, the following team could change.
Goalkeepers
There are plenty of good goalkeeper options playing at home this week, so to enable funds elsewhere, it could be worth go as cheap as possible between the sticks.
Sporting CP’ Franco Israel (€4m) has a lovely home fixture against a poor Bologna side next up, which could lead to both clean sheet and save point potential.
Or, UCL Fantasy managers could decide to play Michele Di Gregorio (€4.2m). Juventus have managed back-to-back clean sheets in their previous three matches, and face Benfica this week.
Defenders
It’s a back-three this week, and one player who could offer up a clean sheet and ball recovery potential is Kim Min-Jae (€5.2m). The Bayern centre-back clashes with a poor Slovan Bratislava at home next, so finding a better fixture on paper may be tough this week.
Leverkusen have shown how relentless they can be when playing at home this season. Playing with a back-three makes wing-back Alejandro Grimaldo (€5.8m) a constant attacking threat. The Spaniard is already in double-digits for attacking returns this season.
Completing the starting defence is Theo Hernandez (€5.5m), who is arguably the most attacking defender playing away from home this week. As well as scoring two goals and creating an assist in his previous six games, he also faces a Girona side who rank among the worst teams for expected goals this campaign.
On the bench and enabling the team is Crvena Zvezda’ Young Woo-Seol (€3.8m) and Arsenal Jurrien Timber (€4.4m). Managers who want to make a small upgrade could drop Timber to another €3.8m defender.
Midfielders
Four players make up the starting midfield this week. If starting then Mohamed Salah (€10.1m) is a shoo-in. He may play away from home this week, but Liverpool and their penalty taking Egyptian have been relentless all season.
Real Madrid appear to be clicking, and have shown they can punish a team out of sorts defensively. Because of this, going in heavy on the Los Blancos frontline could be hugely rewarding. Their best midfield option is of course Jude Bellingham (€9m), who bagged two assists in Matchday 7.
Leverkusen still need to secure automatic progression into the round of 16, so expect goals at home this week. Penalty taker and talisman Florian Wirtz (€7.9m), goes into the next round having managed 18 goal contributions in just 19 Bundesliga matches.
After racking up nine big chances and 30 shots on goal in the previous match, and still losing, Bayern will be highly motivated going into the next match. The Bavarians also face the worst defence in the league for total goals conceded, so the cheap Michael Olise (€6.7m) could be a great way into the attack.
One of the cheapest playing attackers in the game is Celtic’ Nicolas Kuhn (€4.8m). The German won’t be starting for us this week, and if you needed the money for an upgrade elsewhere, then he could be dropped to an even cheaper asset.
Forwards
The fixture for Bayern is too good to ignore this week. Slovan Bratislava have conceded at least three goals in all but one of their matches so far. Because of this, penalty taker Harry Kane (€10.7m) could well be considered an essential.
Brest’ recent 2-0 loss to Shakhtar suggests they may have run out of steam. The French side have been impressive at times, but taking into account Real Madrid’ recent scoring form, they could capitulate defensively. On penalty duty due to Vinicius Junior’ suspension is Kylian Mbappe (€10.9m) who could have huge potential without his teammate.
Playing at home and needing a win, Sporting CP could be a good team to back this week. Bologna are up next for them, and leading the fight against them is in-form penalty taker Viktor Gyökeres (€7.9m), who has notched up a massive 28 goals across both the Champions League and Liga Portugal.
