The Best Limitless Team
Goalkeepers
Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in all but one of their Champions League matches so far, which makes them one of the most appealing sides to invest in from a defensive perspective. Playing on Tuesday, Alisson Becker has another great opening for a clean sheet, in his home fixture against Lille.
In the event that Alisson fails to secure a return on the first day, Real Madrid have a great opportunity against Salzburg on Wednesday. The Austrian side have been woeful offensively this campaign – netting just three goals. Taking that into account, world class shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois seems like a safe bet.
Defenders
Based on Liverpool’ excellent defensive record, and the fact Lille have over-performed on their attacking data, doubling up at the back could be rewarding. Flying full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to dominate several distribution metrics among all defenders in the Premier League, so he goes into the tie with multiple routes to points.
Another player who offers attacking threat, but as a wing-back, is Denzel Dumfries. The Dutchman heads into his away match off the back of scoring three goals in his previous four outings. Prior to his latest Champions League game, Inter had kept a clean sheet every one of their matches, so Dumfries could have huge potential.
Similarly to Inter, Leverkusen also play with a back-three system. Benefitting from this, Alejandro Grimaldo has proven to be one of his sides most reliable players for attacking output. An example of that was his most recent game where he scored the only goal of the match.
Girona rank among the worst side in the campaign so far for expected goals. This suggests Milan have clean sheet potential playing at home this week. Advancing forward at every opportunity, Theo Hernandez has produced two goals and an assist in his last three matches.
Arsenal have maintained some of the best underlying defensive metrics in the Premier League this season. The Gooners clash with a poor GNK Dinamo side at home, which could see Gabriel keep a clean sheet. He has also managed to score six times in all competitions, so can also be a goal threat.
Midfielders
Winning their last 10 matches on the bounce in all competitions shows Leverkusen are in relentless form. So, even with an away trip to Atleti, backing them makes sense. Contributing to the 24 goals they scored during that period was penalty taker Florian Wirtz, who racked up a huge six goals and five assists.
Another player who is scintillating form is Mohamed Salah. Liverpool sit at the top of the Champions League table for a reason, and their Egyptian has notched up an incredible 18 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League alone.
Conceding a huge 21 goals so far and ranking as the second worst side in the competition for goals conceded, Slovan Bratislava are one of the best teams you can target this week. Facing them is Stuttgart, who go into the game having managed to score five in Matchday 7. Among the goals was Enzo Millot, who bagged a goal and an assist that day.
Easing into the team and potentially a shoo-in if starting is African player of the year Ademola Lookman. Atalanta have scored the second most goals in Serie A this season, and average more than two goals scored per game in Europe. Integral to the attack is Lookman who scored in each of his previous two Champions League matches.
Salzburg have averaged a huge three goals conceded per game so far. So, owning at least one Real Madrid attacker could be essential this week. Since returning to his number 10 role, Jude Bellingham has impressed – scoring five goals and registering three assists in his previous six games alone.
Forwards
Doubling up on the Real Madrid frontline could be hugely rewarding in Matchday 7. As well as taking into account Salzburg’ poor defensive form, Real Madrid have scored at least twice in all of their last 10 matches. Among the goals was an improved Kylian Mbappe, he banked eight goal contributions during that period.
Barcelona are also a team we need to consider this week. Scoring a whopping 21 goals in just six Champions League games so far, the Catalans have been exceptional offensively. Spearheading the Barcelona attack is of course penalty taker Robert Lewandowski. He has averaged an attacking game per match in La Liga this season.
Completing the frontline, Harry Kane could be another brilliant option. Bayern have scored at least five goals in three of their previous four fixtures, so going without their main man, who has mustered up 28 goal contributions across both the Champions League and Bundesliga, could be punishing.
