UCL Fantasy Matchday 5 Best Wildcard Team

In this article we continue our Champions League coverage by producing the UCL Fantasy Matchday 5 best Wildcard team. To do this we take into account several factors including fixture difficulty, team and player form and statistics.

The Wildcard is one of two chips provided by UCL Fantasy to give fantasy managers a boost. The Wildcard allows its user to make as many permanent changes as possible until the upcoming deadline. For that reason the Wildcard is seen as the most powerful chip.

Goalkeepers

Due to their limited potential, spending as little between the sticks as possible, may be a wise play. With that in mind, both Sporting’s Franco Israel (€4m) and Stuttgart’s Alexander Nubel (€4.5m) make the cut. Both goalkeepers play on different different days until Matchday 8 .

Defenders

Four goals and three assists already domestically is a feat not many full-backs have managed this season. Because of this, his budget price-tag and excellent fixtures, Celtic’s Alistair Johnston (€4.5m) takes his place within the squad.

AC Milan sit top of our UCL Fantasy fixture ticker, with four plum fixtures from now until the end of the league phase. Theo Hernandez (€5.5m), as well as having clean sheet potential, also offers attacking threat – having managed two goals and two assists in Serie A already.

Arsenal are another side who have a fixture swing coming up. Rather than booking in transfers after they play Sporting this week, it could be ideal to include the cheap Jurrien Timber (€4.4m). Arsenal have managed an impressive three clean sheets from their first four games, so defensive investment could be key.

Leverkusen face Salzburg before their tough fixtures come, so making sure you don’t come away from their assets too early is advised. Alejandro Grimaldo (€5.6m) also offers multiple routes to points via his wing-back position, so even against tougher games he could offer huge value.

Stuttgart also sit near the top of the ticker. The German side have one of the most attacking full-backs in Europe with Maximilian Mittelstädt (€5m), who has amassed an impressive six assists this season in all competitions.

Midfielders

Barcelona have been the most convincing attack in the Champions League this season, and that’s largely due to the in-form Raphinha (€7.6m). The Brazilian has produced a huge six attacking returns in his last two Champions League matches, which highlights his excellent run of form.

With 10 goals conceded already this season, Salzburg are clearly a team to target from a defensive perspective. With that in mind talisman and penalty taker Florian Wirtz (€7.7m), could be a transfer worth booking in. As it stands there is money in the bank to make the switch to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka (€9.3m) in Matchday 6.

Enabling this fantastic but expensive squad is Celtic’s Nicolas-Gerrit Kühn (€4.5m). Celtic go into a great run of fixtures after beating a tough Leipzig side. Involved in that win was Kühn, who has managed two attacking returns in three of his last four matches in all competitions.

Mohamed Salah (€10.1m) should be stapled into every Matchday 5 Wildcard. The Liverpool attacker has produced a huge 19 goal contributions across his Premier League and Champions League matches this season, making him one of the most effective attackers in Europe currently.

Completing the midfield, and facing some of the worst defences in the competition over the next several rounds is set piece and penalty taker Christian Pulisic (€7.5m). The American has been critical for the Milan attack this season – having produced a goal or assist in three of his first four Champions League matches.

Forwards

Being one of very few attackers to hit over 20 goal contributions for club this season, Robert Lewandowski (€9.5m) seems to be in the form of his life for Barcelona. If spearheading one of the best frontlines in Europe wasn’t enough then his upcoming fixtures should be.

Trying to hold out on booking in transfers is key this week, so Viktor Gyökeres (€7.6m) gets an inclusion. Arsenal next may not be ideal but the relentless Sporting striker is due a price rise and faces some great fixtures after the Gooners.

Erling Haaland (€11m) squeezes into the team this week, mainly based on the fact he has a better fixture than Harry Kane (€10.7m). The Norwegian faces a extremely ropey Feyenoord backline this week, so excluding him could be hugely damaging, regardless of his form. The plan would be to make the switch to Kane ahead of Matchday 6 when both of their fixtures turn.
