UCL Fantasy Matchday 3 Best Wildcard Team

In this article we continue our Champions League coverage by producing the UCL Fantasy Matchday 3 best Wildcard team. To do this we take into account several factors including fixture difficulty, team and player form and statistics.

The Wildcard is one of two chips provided by UCL Fantasy to give fantasy managers a boost. The Wildcard allows its user to make as many permanent changes as possible until the upcoming deadline. For that reason the Wildcard is seen as the most powerful chip.

Goalkeepers

Finding a good goalkeeper combination from now until the end of the campaign could be challenging. But, Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi (£4.5m) and Bologna’s Lukasz Skorupski (€4.6m) schedule work well with each other until the latter stages.

Those looking for a goalkeeper combination until the end of the league phase could opt for Salzburg’s Janis Blaswich (£4.5m) and Lukasz Skorupski or Janis Blaswich and Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel (€5m).

Defenders

Milan are the only side who have five ‘green’ (easy) fixtures according to the UCL Fantasy Fixture Ticker. This could mean potential for their backline. Offering much more than clean sheet potential is flying full-back Theo Hernandez (€5.5m) who has produced three assists and one goal in his last four matches in all competitions.

Dortmund are another side who have great long-term fixtures. In-game defender Emre Can (€5.1m) continues to play in midfield and takes his sides penalties. Two attacking returns in two Champions League matches shows how much potential Can has.

Arsenal have kept two consecutive clean sheets in Europe and have a great schedule ahead so buying into their backline could be beneficial. Their standout option is centre-back Gabriel (€5.5m) who has major goal threat from set pieces.

Arguably the most wanted defender in the game currently, Rico Lewis (€4.6m) continues to start and perform for Manchester City. The fixtures are fantastic for the English side and as well as strong clean sheet potential Lewis has also registered four assists since the start of the campaign.

One side offering clean sheet and attacking potential going into any given match is Leverkusen. It may be tempting to bring in two of their wing-backs, but for now Jeremie Frimpong (€5.6m) seems to be the standout. Frimpong has incredibly managed three assists in his first two Champions League matches, showing just how much threat he has.

Midfielders

One of the best budget attackers in the game could turn out to be Morgan Rogers (€5m). Aston Villa have great fixtures from an attacking perspective and Rogers seems to be in the midst of a purple patch – producing two goals and two assists in his last five games.

Monitoring injury news around Bukayo Saka (€9m) could be crucial this week. Not only is Saka arguably the standout captaincy option on Day 1 but he also has great fixtures, starting with a home match against Shakhtar. If we don’t receive news on his status then in-form Milan attacker Christian Pulisic (€7.5m) could be a suitable replacement, potentially even for captaincy.

A tough match against Bayern shouldn’t put anybody off investing in the Barcelona frontline. The German side have proven ropey at best this season and the fixtures after are highly targetable. Raphinha (€7.5m) could be their most explosive midfield option. The Brazilian has amassed an average of a goal contribution per match in La Liga this season.

Leverkusen are evidently a side we should take seriously, even after appearing in the Europa League last season. The German side appear to be in relentless scoring form so investing in the explosive penalty taker Florian Wirtz (€7.6m) could be a priority.

Maintaining similar confidence offensively Liverpool are another side who can score goals against any side. Their standout attacking option is penalty taker Mohamed Salah (€10m). The Egyptian goes into Matchday 2 off the back of scoring, assisting, and bagging a player of the match award in the previous round.

Forwards

Aston Villa have netted 2-3 goals on a huge seven occasions this season so buying into their attack could be hugely beneficial. Spearheading Unai Emery’s frontline is in-form Ollie Watkins (€7.5m). Five goals and two assists in just eight matches shows just how effective he can be and he takes that form into a home match against Bologna next.

Manchester City arguably have the best fixtures from now until Matchday 8. Because of this and captaincy Erling Haaland (€11m) could well be considered an essential. Haaland has bagged a huge 10 goals in his seven Premier League matches this season.

Atalanta face a Celtic side who shipped seven goals in their most recent Champions League game. Targeting them and the nice fixtures ahead we should look to likely penalty taker Mateo Retegui (€5.5m). The Atalanta frontman can be hugely explosive in terms of output, his recent match against Genoa where he scored three goals and created one assist is evidence of that. He also comes in with a very low price-tag, helping to enable funds elsewhere within the squad.
