Goalkeepers

Bayern sit joint top for clean sheets odds going into the new round. Their lack of defender options with attacking threat could make Manuel Neuer (€6m) a great pick.

Backing him up we head to English side Arsenal. With six clean sheets from eight matches, Arsenal could be a great defence to invest in. Up next for David Raya is a home match against Olympiakos.

Defenders

Inter have been exceptional defensively during the previous 12 months. Fortunately for us, they also play with a wing-back system which makes both Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco, two players who have already proved themselves offensively, could be excellent picks against Slavia Praha.

All out premium at the back continues with Gabriel. Doubling up on the Arsenal defence against a side who failed to score against Pafos last week could be wise. The Brazilian can also be a major goal threat from set-plays and we could see that this week.

Leverkusen didn’t get off to a great start in Matchday 1 – drawing 2-2 to Copenhagen. However, on the score sheet was flying wing-back Alejandro Grimaldo, who continues to be one of the most offensively successful defenders in Europe.

Real Madrid also rank joint top in terms of clean sheet odds this week. They come up against a poor Kairat side, and one of their safest defenders in terms of minutes is budget pick and centre-back Dean Huijsen.

Midfielders

Liverpool face-off against Galatasaray who shipped a huge five goals in the previous round. With that in mind, and taking into account Liverpool’ form, it could be difficult to go without penalty taker Mohamed Salah who bagged a goal and an assist in Matchday 1.

Bayern continue to score goals – at least three in seven of their last nine. This week they come up against Champions League newcomers Pafos, so we could see that scoring form continue. One of their most effective attackers is Michael Olise.

Arsenal’ home game against an unconvincing Olympiakos could see plenty of success for the Arsenal attack. It could be difficult to fit in their forward, so backing Bukayo Saka may be a wise move. Saka has been the Gooners standout attacker for some time now.

USG impressed in the opening round but still conceded to a poor PSV side. They could be punished by English side Newcastle this week, and Anthony Gordon has a good opportunity to score a second goal in the Champions League.

Real Madrid could really punish the Kairat backline this week. Although under fire this season for his performances, Vinicius Junior has racked up three assists and a goal in his previous three matches – showing signs of improvements.

Forwards

Harry Kane is one of several players who could be essential this week. The Bayern penalty taker has racked up a jaw-dropping 16 goals this season, contributing to the relentless Bavarian frontline. Pafos up next should see him add to that tally.

Another player who could be difficult to exclude this week is Kylian Mbappe. Real Madrid have won all but one of their early matches this season, so seem to be gathering momentum, and face a poor Kairat defence next which conceded four goals in the opening round.

Captaincy could be crucial this week, so making sure we have the best options on each day will be key. With that in mind, Erling Haaland stands out. The Manchester City striker faces Monaco away from home on Wednesday so many will look to the in-from Norwegian if their day one captains fail.
