UCL Fantasy Matchday 2 Best Captains
The Champions League continues! Today we pick out the UCL Fantasy Matchday 2 best captains. As well as picking out the standout captaincy option on each day of Matchday 2 we also select one or more differential options for those looking to gain rank early on.
UCL Fantasy managers have the ability the select a captain on each day of a Matchday. If you aren’t happy with your captain return on the first day then you can change your captain to another player on the second day.
The Best Captain on Tuesday 1st October
UCL Fantasy managers have just two opportunities to captain a player this week. This could suggest that taking less risks with captaincy could be a wiser play.
The Tuesday is full of potential when it comes to selecting a captain. But, it could be difficult to ignore one man in particular with the armband, Erling Haaland (€11m).
Manchester City are regulars when it comes to sustaining a high scoring average. The 2022/23 Champions League winners have been going through somewhat of a drought recently – scoring just two goals in two of their last four matches. Fixtures have been more difficult than usual though with clashes against Arsenal, Inter and Newcastle in their last four games.
The Manchester City schedule seems to be easing considerably which could mean an uptake in goals scored again. In fact, Slovan Bratislava lay ahead this week, the same team that shipped a huge five goals to Celtic in Matchday 1.
10 goals scored in just six Premier League matches so far means Haaland is in spectacular form going into the match. The Norwegian spearheads one of the best teams in Europe and does so whilst taking penalties.
Differentials
Where-as most of what Manchester City create leads to Erling Haaland, Barcelona have an array of different attacking options who benefit from the goals they score. This makes it more difficult to predict which of their attackers will produce on any given day.
That may be the case but the Catalans score a lot of goals. In fact, after winning all but one of their La Liga matches the Spanish side have also racked up a huge 25 goals, which works out an an average of around 3.1 goals scored per game.
Barcelona take that scoring average into their home match against a Young Boys side who shipped three goals to Aston Villa in Matchday 1. Primed to benefit from that is striker Robert Lewandowski (€9.5m) who has bagged an impressive seven goals and two assists in his first eight La Liga matches.
Also amongst the UCL Fantasy Matchday 2 best captains is teammate and midfielder Lamine Yamal (€7.5m) has also been in exceptional form. The 17-year-old forces his way into the captaincy conversation after an excellent Euro 2024 with Spain, and four goals and five assists in his eight domestic matches.
Other options who UCL Fantasy managers could consider for captaincy is Leverkusen penalty taker and talisman Florian Wirtz (€7.5m) who faces Milan after scoring a brace in Matchday 1, and Sporting star striker Viktor Gyökeres (€7.5m) who has notched up a phenomenal 10 goals in seven Portuguese League matches.
The Best Captain on Wednesday 2nd October
Wednesday also offers up some great captaincy picks, but the standout fixture could be the one involving Liverpool. The Reds have started their campaign excellently, even under the guidance of new manager Arne Slot. The Dutchman has fired his new side to the top of the Premier League table after winning five of their first six matches.
Liverpool have also maintaining some fantastic attacking data – edging every other side domestically for total shots in the box, and total big chances. Those metrics have helped them to produce at least 2+ goals scored in seven of their eight matches in all competitions this season.
Italian side Bologna lay ahead, who are yet to recover from the departure of former manager Thiago Motta and key players who left during the summer. As well as winning just one of their seven matches in all competitions Bologna have also conceded in all but one of their matches so far this season.
The above makes the Liverpool frontline hugely appealing this week from a captaincy perspective and it’s penalty taker Mohamed Salah (€10.5m) who stands out. The Egyptian has collected four goals and four assists in just six Premier League matches, showing at 32-years-old he remains in his prime.
Salah is in premium return rate form and with a home fixture next, penalty duty, and playing in an in-form attack, he could have huge potential in Matchday 2.
Differentials
Real Madrid also have a fantastic fixture, albeit away from home. Carlo Ancelotti’s men will be hoping to add another three points to the board after a comfortable 3-1 victory against Stuttgart in Matchday 1.
The 2023/24 Champions League winners are without new signing Kylian Mbappe this week due to injury. One man who could benefit from that is Vinicius Junior (€11m). Prior to this match there was uncertainty around who would take penalties, but this week it’s likely to be left in the hands of the Brazilian.
After accumulating 10 goal contributions in 10 Champions League matches laast season Junior is no stranger to success without Mbappe. He goes into meeting with a Lille side who have conceded 2-3 goals in four of their last six matches off the back of hitting three assists and a goal in his last three games.
Harry Kane (€10.5m) could be another option if declared fit to start. Aston Villa are difficult to beat at home but the English side have not registered a single home clean sheet in the current campaign. Bayern also notched up an eye-watering nine goals in Matchday 1 against GNK Dinamo and Kane produced four of them.
