Best Wildcard team for Matchday 4

Goalkeepers

  • Janis Blaswich (€4.5m) – There aren’t a lot of goalkeepers keeping clean sheets during the group stage. This could suggest investing as little money as possible on the backline a good move. Leipzig face Crvena Zvezda in the upcoming round which is a great opportunity for them to keep a clean sheet.
  • Yann Sommer (€4.5m) – Sommer plays for an Inter side who have managed a huge eight clean sheets in all competitions so far. Sommer is the cheapest and most reliable way into a very good defence.

Defenders

  • Hamari Traore (€4.5m) – Real Sociedad are going hugely under the radar this season. Defensively they’ve collected two clean sheets in three of their UCL matches. Traore comes in at a great price and he’s also managed 22 ball recoveries in his matches so far from fullback.
  • Joao Cancelo (€6m) – Barcelona are another side who have kept two clean sheets this season. Finding players with attacking threat could be crucial this season and Cancelo offers exactly that. The Portuguese full-back has produced four attacking returns already this season.
  • David Raum (€4.5) – Leipzig rely heavily on their attacking full-backs and Raum is one of them. He takes his sides corners which is another route to points. He’s also banked a huge seven goal contributions this season including two goals in the last three matches.
  • Denzel Dumfries (€5.5m) – Inter play with a back-three system which gives Dumfries the license to advance forward. The Dutchman has racked up more attacking returns (nine) than any other defender in Europe this season for club and country. He has also started all three of his sides UCL matches.
  • Giovanni Di Lorenzo (€5.5m) – Napoli maintained one of the best defences in Europe this season. They face Union Berlin next who have lost the last 11 matches on the bounce. With that and the fact he’s registered six goal contributions this season makes the Italian a great option.

Midfielders

  • Xavi Simons (€5.5m) – Leipzig have netted three goals in two of their UCL games so far. One of the best ways into the attack is Simons. Although Simons went through a recent slump in output he’s collected four attacking returns in his last three matches.
  • Jude Bellingham (€7.8m) – Bellingham has been one of the most consistent players in the game this season. Not only has he returned in all three games but two of them were double-digit hauls. He plays for a Real Madrid side who come up against two of the worst defences in the competition in the next three matches. He did pick up a recent injury so if we get news he is out then Calvin Stengs (€6.2m) of Feyenoord could be an ideal replacement.
  • Marcus Thuram (€6.5m) – Although suffering from rotation as of late Thuram is playing out of position for a strong Inter side with a great group. The Frenchman has already banked 11 goal contributions since the start of the season for club and country.
  • Leroy Sane (€9.1m) – Bayern are one of the few teams in Europe who consistently maintain more than three goals scored per game in all competitions. Because of that buying into the frontline is essential. Sane is one of the most in-form midfielders in the game after claiming 14 goals/assists this season.
  • Brais Mendez (€6.8m) – Real Sociedad have impressed this season – remaining unbeaten in their first three UCL matches. Their talisman is Mendez who has bagged three goals, one assist and two players of the match awards already. He also takes his sides corners which gives him an extra edge.

Forwards

  • Harry Kane (€10m) – Investing in the focal point and penalty taker within the Bayern attack feels like a no-brainer. Not only has he notched up an incredible 25 goals/assists since the start of the season but he’s also a very good captaincy option moving forward.
  • Erling Haaland (€11.5m) – Manchester City have netted three goals in each of their Champions League matches so far. This is a great indicator that investing their attack is crucial. Haaland may have gone through a dry patch recently but he’s back to his best after scoring seven goals and creating one assist in his last five matches for club and country. Haaland is also a very good captaincy option for the days that Kane doesn’t play on. He did pick up a recent injury so if ruled out then teammate and fellow striker Julian Alvarez (€7.3m) could be a very good replacement.
  • Santiago Gimenez (€7.5m) – Feyenoord have been a surprise package in the UCL this season. The Dutch Champions have netted at least two goals in each of their first three games. The focal point to that attack is this man. His return from injury in Matchday 3 was marked with two goals, a player of the match award and 12 points. He’s also bagged a whopping 13 attacking returns in just seven matches. That averages over two goal contributions per game.
