It could be extremely beneficial to focus on the UCL Fantasy best teams to target in Matchday 1. Knowing which teams to invest in, which teams to avoid investment in and which teams have the easiest fixtures will help us build our squads for the new round.
Barcelona
Barcelona will be heavy favourites coming into Matchday 1 as they face Antwerp at home. The Spanish giants may have made an early exit in their last Champions League campaign but they went onto win La Liga ahead of rivals Real Madrid.
During their title winning season Barcelona racked up a massive 26 clean sheets and only conceded 20 goals all campaign. They also managed to average 1.8 goals scored per game. Both sets of data indicate that investing in both their defensive and their offensive assets could be a wise move.
Leipzig
Leipzig aren’t the best team in Germany but they weren’t far off last season. They finished just five points off Champions Bayern, kept 10 clean sheets but averaged 1.9 goals scored per game. Leipzig have also started their new campaign well. In their first four matches in all competitions they have won three and lost one.
One of the games Leipzig won this season was against Bayern in the Super Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory. The German side face Young Boys away from home in Matchday 1. Although seemingly Champions League regulars the Swiss 22/23 domestic league winners have a torrid record. In their 21/22 campaign Young Boys finished rock bottom of their group. It wasn’t much better in their 18/19 season either where they again fell short of every other team in in the groups.
Manchester City
The 22/23 Champions league winners are favourites again this season and thats no surprise. The English side have become the dominant force in their couontry over the last several years under manager Pep Guardiola.
Last season domestically Manchester City managed to bag 13 clean sheets. On top of that they scored a massive 94 goals and averaged a whopping 2.5 goals per game which was one of the highest in Europe. They face Crvena zvezda whom sit second in the Serbian League and finished rock bottom of their last two UCL campaigns.
Inter
Inter impressed everyone last season after making it all of the way to the Champions League final. They even made it an extremely difficult game for the winners so even though failing to take home the trophy there are clear signs there that Inter are strengthening season on season.
It’s been a very strong start to the new campaign from Inter. So far, in the four matches they have played they won each and everyone of them whilst also scoring eight goals and keeping three clean sheets. They face a Real Sociedad side who sit eighth in their domestic league and whom have won just one of their first four matches.
Napoli
We saw a re-emergence of the Italian sides last season and Napoli were one of them. After a relentless campaign for them Napoli were a jaw-dropping 16 points clear in Serie A at the end of the season highlighting an excellent run of form. In that period they bagged 18 clean sheets and averaged a huge two goals per game.
Napoli were also impressive in the Champions League and advanced all of the way to the quarter-finals. They will be hoping to progress even further this time and their first task is to claim an expected victory against a Braga side who sit sixth in the Portuguese league.
