UCL Fantasy Best Captain for Matchday 1
In this article we take a look at the UCL Fantasy best captain for Matchday 1 using stats, team and player form and any other factors that can help us. We also take a look at some differential and alternative captaincy options for those looking to gain an edge over the masses.
Looking at the UCL Fantasy best captain for Matchday 1 is absolutely crucial for managers. Captaincy is one of the most important factors in the game which can help towards overall rank, chip strategy and transfers.
Best Tuesday captain
UCL Fantasy managers have the option of captaining a player both on the Tuesday and then the Wednesday.
Manchester City come into the new campaign in fine domestic form – winning all five of their first matches. In that same period they also netted 14 goals – averaging nearly three goals per game. The current Champions League are in fantastic form and come up against Crvena zvezda in the first round.
The last time Crvena zvezda played in the UCL they finished rock bottom of their group, lost five out of six of their games and conceded a whipping 20 goals. Their 19/20 finish was actually worse than their 18/19 campaign where they still lost four out of six and conceded 17 goals.
There can be no doubts that Crvena are a team to target especially when they come up against a mighty Manchester City attack. What makes their frontline so dangerous is Erling Haaland (€11.5m). The Norwegian scored 12 goals and registered one assist in his last UCL campaign – showing his explosiveness in Europe. So far this season Haaland has already racked up seven goals and one assist – highlighting his relentless form.
Tuesday differential captaincy
The masses will captain Erling Haaland on Tuesday and there is a reason for that. However, one player who could get close to his total or even edge him is Robert Lewandowski (€10.5m).
Barcelona won La Liga convincingly last season – edging their closest rivals Real Madrid by a huge 10 points overall. The Spanish giants racked up 70 goals in their title winning campaign with an average of 1.8 goals scored per game.
Antwerp lay ahead for Barcelona but with the Spanish side playing at home it could be a situation similar to David and Goliath – with Goliath absolute favourites and little chance of defeat. Antwerp have already conceded in five of their nine games in all competitions so far in Belgium which could mean even more potential for the Barcelona attackers.
Lewandowski has already cemented himself as a UCL Fantasy legend due to his explosiveness. The Polish striker has been relentless for years in front of goal and at 35-years-old there are no signs of that slowing down. So far this season Lewandowski has collected three goals and three assists in just five matches. He also takes his sides penalties giving him even more appeal.
Best Wednesday captain
For those who fail to hit a significant captaincy return on the first day you can change your captain to a Wednesday player.
Wednesday is a very tough day to pick out a specific asset, especially when there are two fantastic options. Picking between them can be difficult but the first option is Harry Kane (€10m).
Bayern usually average one of the highest scoring outputs in Europe in any given season – it is very rare they average less than three goals per game. The German giants have started the new campaign strong – winning three of their first four matches and notching up 11 goals.
Manchester United lay ahead for the Germans. The English side have started their own season with major question marks at the back – they have already conceded a huge 10 goals. They also have some key injuries which could dampen their defensive strength even more.
Harry Kane has been one of the best strikers in world football for some time now. Since joining Bayern Kane has picked up penalty duty, four goals and just one assist in five matches. He is also very familiar with scoring against his upcoming opponents.
Victor Osimhen is also very strong captaincy option. The Nigerian managed 26 goals and four assists in his title winning season last time out. To highlight his recent form he also scored a massive 12 goals in his last 10 matches in all competitions.
Napoli look slightly out of sorts this season but we could see a totally different performance in the Champions League like with many others. The Italian side come up against a Braga team whom have conceded in all of their last three league games, won just once and sit eighth in the Portuguese league.
Wednesday differential captaincy
There are plenty of options for the risk takers out there on Wednesday.
One team managers should look to is Inter. The Italian side have won all four of their early matches. In that same period they kept three clean sheets and netted 13 times. Some could opt for wing-backs Federico Dimarco (€5.5m) and Denzel Dumfries (€5.5m). The former has collected three assists already on top of his clean sheets where-as the latter has picked up two assists and one goal. Pick your poison here because both are in fantastic form.
