Transfers and gossip up to June 24th
We catch up with some of the transfers and gossip up to June 24th, with the help of reputable sources.
Following the media’s many transfers and gossip stories can be tiresome. The majority either fall through or have been tactically planted by one of the parties involved. Yet those that do come to fruition can have a huge effect on a range of Fantasy games.
Here are a few of the more interesting rumours from the last few days.
Transfers and gossip
Jonathan David (from Lille to Chelsea)
Recent links with Jhon Duran and Samu Omorodion suggest that Chelsea are actively chasing a forward to compete with Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.
According to David Ornstein, they’re also serious about Lille’s Jonathan David. As he’s approaching the final year of his contract, a relatively low fee of around £25-30m is being touted. Man United and Tottenham may also bite at that price.
The 24-year-old has scored 43 times during the latest two Ligue 1 campaigns.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (from Everton to Newcastle)
Meanwhile, the main weekend rumours involve Premier League sides coupling up and exchanging players in the final days of this financial year.
An example of this is Everton and Newcastle potentially swapping Dominic Calvert-Lewin and promising winger Yankuba Minteh. Continental sides like Dortmund, Roma and Lyon have also been linked with the latter but Fabrizio Romano says he’s prioritising a Premier League move.
Calvert-Lewin is entering the closing season of his contract and AC Milan are also said to want 2023/24’s biggest expected goals (xG) underachiever (-5.93).
Callum Wilson (from Newcastle to West Ham)
As part of the domino effect, it’d allow Newcastle to sell Wilson. Now aged 32 and coming off an injury-hit season, the Magpies feel it’s time to part ways with their second-all-time highest Premier League scorer.
Naturally, links with Saudi Arabian sides exist. But a move to West Ham could emerge, as it’s been a problem position in recent times. If anything, it’d stop Wilson from continually punishing them – he’s netted 12 times in 14 league meetings with the Hammers.
Max Kilman (from Wolves to Newcastle or West Ham)
Sticking with Newcastle and West Ham, both are allegedly in for Wolves defender Max Kilman. John Percy believes Eddie Howe’s side offered money plus Elliot Anderson but it was swiftly rejected. It wouldn’t make much sense though, considering it’s a right-sided centre-back they need.
A £45m price tag has been applied and the east Londoners are supposedly preparing a second bid.
Pascal Gross (from Brighton to Dortmund)
Finally, after seven seasons at Brighton, rumours are linking veteran playmaker Gross with a return to Germany. Although there’s some hope that he can be persuaded to stay, Bundesliga sides Dortmund and Frankfurt are waiting to pounce.
He’ll be a big miss for the Seagulls. The set-piece master has been their top-scoring FPL asset in successive seasons and there are already big changes on the south coast now that 31-year-old Fabian Hürzeler has taken charge. It’s a new era and a big risk.
