Transfers and gossip up to July 1st
We catch up with some of the transfers and gossip up to July 1st, with the help of reputable sources.
Following the media’s many transfers and gossip stories can be tiresome. The majority either fall through or have been tactically planted by one of the parties involved. Yet those that do come to fruition can have a huge effect on a range of Fantasy games.
Here are a few of the more interesting rumours from the last few days.
Transfers and gossip
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (from Leicester to Chelsea)
After a deal was agreed upon and medical completed with Brighton, Chelsea swooped to quickly reunite Dewsbury-Hall with new manager Enzo Maresca.
The central midfielder joins in a £30m move, with 18-year-old Michael Golding going in the other direction for around £5m.
He had a superb Championship season of 12 goals and 14 assists, seemingly a great fit for the system Maresca wants the Blues to use.
Omari Hutchinson (from Chelsea to Ipswich)
Another exchange between Chelsea and a promoted side takes promising 20-year-old attacker Hutchinson to Ipswich.
He had a successful loan spell at Portman Road last season, delivering 11 goals and six assists mainly from the right wing.
It means Kieran McKenna’s side are now preparing for their first Premier League season in 22 years. Therefore they have access to a huge money pot that means Hutchinson can be secured for a club-record initial £18m.
It’s more handy money for Chelsea, who’ve brought in big amounts for Ian Maatsen and Lewis Hall.
Matthijs de Ligt (from Bayern Munich to Man United)
Seemingly moving on from Jarrad Branthwaite, Man United want to continue boosting their Dutch ranks with an alternate centre-back.
2018 Golden Boy de Ligt could be about to make his third huge transfer by the age of 24. Named Ajax’s captain at 18, he finalised a £67.5m Juventus move in 2019 and joined Bayern Munich for £68m two years ago.
However, he’s struggled for fitness and form in recent times, which is why the Bavarian giants are tempted to sell. De Ligt is currently with the Dutch squad at the European Championship.
Archie Gray (from Leeds to Tottenham)
Similarly to Dewsbury-Hall’s Brighton situation, reports say that Leeds’ wonderkid Gray was all set to take a medical at Brentford until the deal broke down. Instead, Spurs are ready to seal a £40m transfer.
Born in Durham while his dad played for Sunderland, Gray is an incredibly highly-rated 18-year-old who is comfortable at both right-back and in central midfield.
He was named on a Premier League aged 15 but the opening weekend of 2023/24 was when he made his first Leeds appearance. Since then, he’s claimed Championship Young Player of the Season and netted on his England Under-21 debut.
