Transfers and gossip up to July 15th
We catch up with some of the transfers and gossip up to July 15th, with the help of reputable sources.
Following the media’s many transfers and gossip stories can be tiresome. The majority either fall through or have been tactically planted by one of the parties involved. Yet those that do come to fruition can have a huge effect on a range of Fantasy games.
Here are a few of the more interesting rumours from the last few days.
TRANSFERS + GOSSIP
DONE: Jacob Greaves (from Hull to Ipswich)
Bursting out of the transfer traps is newly-promoted Ipswich, who look to mean business this summer. After making the Omari Hutchinson loan permanent for around £18m, they’ve spent an initial £15m on centre-back Greaves and tried to sign his Hull team-mate Jaden Philogene for a similar fee.
The latter now seems set to re-join Aston Villa but Liam Delap – on loan at Hull last season – is also a new Portman Road arrival for at least £15m.
23-year-old Greaves is highly rated and was named in the 2023/24 Championship Team of the Season. However, unless he’s priced at the £4.0m minimum, any FPL attention to Ipswich will likely go towards £4.5m Leif Davis. That’s because the left-back assisted an incredible 18 times.
RUMOUR: Marc Guehi (from Crystal Palace to Liverpool)
Fabrizio Romano believes that, having recently released Joel Matip, Liverpool really like Guehi.
A ball recovery monster and one of England’s best Euro 2024 players, it’d take around £65m to tempt Crystal Palace into a sale. Oliver Glasner transformed the Eagles towards the end of last season and – such is the nature of football – have promptly sold Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and are seeing Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton linked with moves elsewhere.
Interestingly, if this deal was to go through, Guehi has already been priced by FPL at just £4.5m. Combine this with Liverpool’s attractive early fixture run, he could become a template asset.
RUMOUR: Dani Olmo (from RB Leipzig to Man City)
In a completely unfulfilling way, UEFA decided to split the Euro 2024 Golden Boot six ways. One of such recipients is Spanish attacking midfielder Dani Olmo, someone who supposedly has a €60m release clause that expires on Saturday.
Aged 26, he’s extremely talented and about to enter the peak years of his career. Although his latest three Bundesliga campaigns at RB Leipzig have seen just 39 starts, containing nine goals and 13 assists.
If Man City do indeed sign Olmo, it will intensify existing questions about Kevin De Bruyne‘s future.
RUMOUR: Alvaro Morata (from Atletico Madrid to AC Milan)
Meanwhile, the captain of Europe’s new champions spoke cryptically about his future, when interviewed after the final.
To the interest of Serie A Fantasy managers, Morata seems likely to join AC Milan for roughly €13-15m.
Despite scoring only once at the Euros, Morata netted 15 times over the last La Liga campaign for Atletico Madrid. He’s also spent four earlier seasons at Juventus, featuring 35 goals and 25 assists.
