Top three picks for Gameweek 2

With the new round edging closer we bring in Fantasy Football Community and Fantasy Football Scout contributor @FPLReaction’ (Louis) to reel off his top three picks for Gameweek 2.

The first round is a good opportunity to get off to a great start. Here I will give you my top three picks for Gameweek 2 to try and help with that. There are some very obvious options with huge potential for the first round and whilst I will list them, I will also provide you with three different picks who I think could also do well.

The obvious options

The obvious options are players who reside in many FPL squads in the lead up to Gameweek 2. Here is a list of those players:

  • Erling Haland (£14m)
  • Bukayo Saka (£8.6m)
  • Pervis Estupinan (£5.1m)
  • Marcus Rashford (£9m)
  • Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m)
  • Ben Chilwell (£5.6m)
  • Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m)
  • Martin Odegaard (£8.5m)
  • Gabriel Martinelli (£8.5m)
  • Ollie Watkins (£8m)
  • Mohamed Salah (£12.5m)

Now, lets take a look at my top three different options.

Luis Diaz

Liverpool assets should be atop of every managers wish list this week. The Reds became one of the most dangerous sides in the division last season and we saw shades of that in the first 35 minutes against Chelsea in Gameweek 1.

I really worry about Bournemouth defensively this season. They were terrible at the back last campaign and I don’t think a more aggressive tact from the new manager will do anything to change that. In fact, I really think they could be there to target.

Most just won’t be able to afford Mohamed Salah but I do think there is a very obvious alternative. Luis Diaz (£7.6m) was superb against Chelsea early doors and even pinched the goal. Its become tough to predict which attackers will start for Liverpool other than Mo but I think Diaz will, and if he does, against Bournemouth, it could be a huge week for him and his owners.

Yoane Wissa

What a first day back for Brentford! They were an exciting watch as ever but one thing that hasn’t changed is their work rate and ability to contest with the biggest teams in the league. Watching Brentford play as a unit again was very refreshing.

One thing that caught my eye in Gameweek 1 was the clear cut chances they were creating. This leads me onto their opponent Fulham who were conveniently the joint worst side in the league last season for big chances created.

There is no doubt Bryan Mbeumo (£6.5m) is a fantastic option but Yoane Wissa should be shown more interest. The striker was a constant threat on the counter and the fact that he managed a goal, two shots on target and two key passes suggests he has both goal and assist potential.

Moussa Diaby

The 5-1 pasting Newcastle provided against Aston Villa was a huge surprise for many. Villa were poor defensively and even worse when they lost key centre-back Tyrone Mings to a terrible injury. That may have been the case but they still looked very dangerous offensively at times.

The player I think could be a great pick this week is Moussa Diaby (£6.5m). Diaby has looked dangerous since joining, passing the eye test in every game in pre-season but ultimately looking like a fantastic asset. The goals he scored in pre-season and one he netted in Gameweek 1 against Newcastle confirms exactly that for me.

Diaby faces an interesting opponent this week in in Everton. The Toffees ranked as one of the worst teams in the league for chances conceded last season and although dominant against Fulham in Gameweek 1 they still managed to concede. I believe Diaby could be key to Aston Villa’ goals this week and cause Everton some major problems at the back.
