Top Picks for Gameweek 21

Last modified date

Filling in for David Munday’s regular look at the Gameweek’s top picks is Marc Jobling. Here, Marc selects who he thinks will be three of the top players for Gameweek 21.

With Double Gameweek 20 now over, we quickly move on to the next round of matches. So I’ve picked out three top picks that could have a solid impact on your team this week.

KEVIN DE BRUYNE

Starting with the best-looking fixture, De Bruyne’s output has been poor since Premier League action has resumed but his expected goal involvement (xGI) is actually amongst the best since Gameweek 17.

Basically, he’s due a haul and his last two meetings with Wolves have been brilliant. A remarkable four goals and 24 FPL points arrived in May, with two assists and ten points in Gameweek 8.

Things have improved for the visitors since Julen Lopetegui took charge but Man City have five successive wins over them.

HARRY KANE

Fulham’s defence isn’t bad, being on the verge of a fifth clean sheet from ten matches until Alexander Isak’s late winner last Sunday.

Yet underlying stats are poor for the season. While it needs to be taken into account that they’ve played more often than everyone bar Spurs, the Cottagers have conceded the most shots on target (110), big chances (63) and expected goals (36.07).

It’s therefore right to back the reliable Kane, having a brilliant season despite Spurs attempting not to.

IVAN TONEY

This week’s most-bought player, Toney has scored in all three post-World Cup matches. Alongside an assist and six bonus points, he totals 26 points at an average rate of 8.67.

Meanwhile, no side has conceded more goals over their last eight outings than leaky Leeds (18). Put all these pieces together and it’s hard not to see more success for Toney’s owners.
