Top 10 FPL players with the best attacking stats

The international break has arrived which means there is plenty of time until Gameweek 5 commences. We take a look at the top 10 FPL players with the best non-penalty expected goal involvement data to see which players have shown the most promise.

Looking at the top 10 FPL players in terms of NPXGI can be very useful for fantasy managers. Non-penalty expected goal involvement means expected goals and expected assists combined which gives managers a better idea of who is likely to return moving forward.

The top 10

Bryan Mbeumo

Brentford have had to adjust due to the ban of star striker Ivan Toney and that they have. The Bee’s have racked up eight goals during their first four league matches and their standout player is Bryan Mbeumo (£6.8m).

The Brentford midfielder leads the way amongst all players in the league so far for NPXGI (3.44). Mbeumo has bagged four goals in four games so far and also takes his sides penalties. He also has some great fixtures coming up so his in-game ownership is likely to keep increasing.

James Maddison

Many expected the loss of Harry Kane to affect Tottenham offensively but that has not been the case. Amongst all teams so far they sit as the joint second highest in the league for goals scored (11). One of the biggest factors contributing towards that is new signing James Maddison (£7.8m).

Maddison has been exceptional for Tottenham so far and sits just behind Mbeumo for non-penalty expected goal involvement (3.42). The midfield maestro has collected 29 points from four matches due to his two goals and two assists. Tottenham have a mixed bag of fixtures facing Sheffield United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the next three but after that spell have a great run of games to attack.

Nicolas Jackson

Chelsea were the biggest spenders in the summer but its been a tough start to the season – they have won one, lost two and drawn once. One of the biggest issues for the Blues seems to be in attack and that is exactly what striker Nicolas Jackson (£7.2m) was supposed to help improve.

As we can see from the graphic above Jackson has amassed a very impressive NPXGI as he ranks third and sits as the best in the forward category in the same data point. The issue for Jackson is that he has failed to convert his data into actual returns – he has managed just one goal and fell well short of his 3.39 NPXGI. With great fixtures ahead it could be worth sticking with Jackson and monitor for signs of improvement.

Erling Haaland

Manchester City have started the new season perfectly after winning all of their first four games. The league holders managed to rack up the most goals scored last season along with some of the best underlying data in the league and that was largely due to this man.

Erling Halaand (£14.1m) has carried his relentless form of the 22/23 campaign into the current after picking up six goals and one assist already. The Norwegian ranks fourth amongst all players with a NPXGI of 3.23 and has clearly over performed on that.

Bruno Fernandes

It has been a rocky start to the 23/24 season for Manchester United – in the four games they have featured in the Reds have won two and lost two. Their results could be somewhat due to the failures in attack.

Midfielder Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) completes the top five players with a NPXGI of 3.17. His one goal and one assist falls well short of his expected data but the return of new signing and striker Rasmus Hojlund could help improve his conversion rate. Manchester United have some good offensive fixtures ahead so fantasy managers could do well to give Fernandes a little more time.

Who else makes the top 10?

  • Bukayo Saka (£8.7m) – The Arsenal midfielder ranks sixth for NPXGI with 3.05. Saka has managed one goal and one assist so has under performed on his data but has two great fixtures against Everton and Bournemouth coming up after the break.
  • Jarrod Bowen (£7.1m) – West Ham have started the season strong and one of their standout players is this man who ranks seventh for NPXGI (2.77). Bowen picked up three goals and one assist so over performed on his NPXGI but with Manchester City next up it could be tough for him to sustain that.
  • Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m) – Brighton have also had a strong start to the campaign and midfielder Mitoma has contributed hugely to that. He ranks eighth for NPXGI with 2.59. He bagged three assists and one goal in his early Gameweeks and plays Manchester United next up after the international break.
  • Odsonne Edouard (£5.5m) – The Crystal Palace striker registered 2.52 NPXGI in his first four games and bagged three goals meaning he over performed. He faces Aston Villa next up so could have the potential to return again.
  • Marcus Rashford (£8.9m) – Completing the top 10 is the Manchester United winger who racked up a NPXGI of 2.52. However, Rashford has under performed on that after securing just one assist and one goal.
