We have arrived at the second international break of the season. With that in mind its time to look back and reflect on the top 10 best defenders in FPL so far. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we pick out the highest scoring defenders in the game.
Taking a look at the top 10 best defenders in FPL so far can be extremely helpful for fantasy managers. Knowing which defenders have been returning the most points can bring clarity to long-term planning, transfers and more.
The top five
- Joachim Anderson (£4.8m) – The Crystal Palace centre-back sits top of the pile as the highest scoring defender in the game so far (51 points). Crystal Palace may be inconsistent but Anderson has been anything but as he scored two goals, picked up four clean sheets and bagged a huge nine points in bonus.
- Kieran Trippier (£6.8m) – Newcastle have started a good run of fixtures and that is telling as their full-back sits second in the list. Trippier’s 49 points come from five assists, three clean sheets and 10 bonus points.
- Ben White (£5.6m) – Arsenal are in top form this season and maintain some of the best defensive stats in the league. Their right-back White sits as the third highest defender in the game with 45 points. The bulk of his total comes from one goal, one assist, four clean sheets and seven bonus points.
- Matty Cash (£5m) – The Aston Villa full-back has been spending time in wing role which could boost his potential long-term. Cash has hit 36 points largely due to his two goals, one assist, two clean sheets and four bonus.
- Christian Romero (£4.8m) – Tottenham are another side who are in impressive form as they sit atop the Premier League table. Centre-back Romero has benefitted from his sides performances. He matched Cash’ 36 points with the help of two goals, three clean sheets and three bonus.
Who else makes the top 10?
- William Saliba (£5.2m) – Another player to hit 36 points so far is this man. The Arsenal centre-back has created one assist, four clean sheets and three bonus points. Saliba has a challenging run of fixtures ahead so it will be interesting to see if he can maintain it.
- Marc Guehi (£4.5m) – Crystal Palace must be doing something right this season because another of their defenders makes the top 10. The centre-back has accumulated 35 points so far with the help of four clean sheets and six bonus.
- Axel Disasi (£5.1m) – Chelsea have failed fans expectations so far this season after their average start. That may be the case but it hasn’t stopped Disasi making his way into the top 10 with 34 points. His total mainly came from one goal, three clean sheets and three bonus.
- Tyrick Mitchell (£4.5m) – Mitchell is the third Crystal Palace defender to make the cut (34 points). Mitchell plays at left-back for his side and so far has bagged one assist, four clean sheets and two bonus. Mitchell and his side have a tough couple of matches ahead against Newcastle and Tottenham.
- Van de Ven (£4.5m) – The Tottenham full-backs may be some of the most appealing assets in the game but its the two centre-backs who are bringing in the points. Van de Ven slid into the top 10 this week with his 15-point haul last weekend. His 34-point total comes from one goal, three clean sheets and four bonus.
