Stones and Walker back in training ahead of Gameweek 38
Those FPL managers who own one or even two Man City defenders will be relieved to see that their defensive injury crisis could ease up in time for the final weekend. Both John Stones and Kyle Walker are back in training, which should remove midfielder Fernandinho as a stand-in centre-back.
As the champions have conceded in their last two matches, it will be a boost to have a solid back four in place against Aston Villa. Joao Cancelo and Aymeric Laporte have high ownership.
Man City want Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola is making an early start on summer transfers. With Erling Haaland already secured, both the Daily Mail and the Guardian believe he also wants Brighton’s Marc Cucurella.
It’s been a campaign so impressive for the defender that he claimed both the Players’ and Supporters’ Player of the Season awards at the Seagulls’ recent ceremony. These came days after he scored his first goal for Graham Potter’s side in a 4-0 win over Man United.
Having spent £15.4m to buy the Spaniard from Getafe last summer, they believe it will take over double that to lure him away from the south coast.
Kalvin Phillips also linked with a move to the Etihad
With Fernandinho leaving this summer and rumours that Ilkay Gundogan may be departing, a central midfielder will also be on the wishlist. According to the Daily Mirror, that man could be Kalvin Phillips.
Although Phillips would flat-out reject a move to Leeds’ bitter rivals Man United, his departure is inevitable should they get relegated this weekend. Another team regularly linked with the England international is Aston Villa.
