Man City could be ready to pay the £50m release clause for Mikel Merino

The Manchester Evening News quotes El Confidencial’s report that Pep Guardiola’s side will meet the £50 release clause of Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino. The 25-year-old has played a key role in his side’s La Liga campaign, after guiding them to Copa del Rey success two seasons ago.

Merino spent 18 months at Newcastle, where he was a huge fan favourite but departed once the Basque side met his low release clause. Now a Spanish international, it would be interesting to see how his arrival would affect Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva. Added to potentially signing a big-name striker, it’s scary to think how much this Man City side could improve.

Summer shake-up at Aston Villa could see an Ings-Bissouma swap

Aston Villa’s recent slump seems to have convinced Steven Gerrard that a huge summer overhaul is needed. Things have picked up since his November arrival but the last four matches have all ended in defeat. According to the Mirror, he will be heavily-backed this summer but wants to raise more money via player sales.

This includes a potential swap deal with Brighton, giving them forward Danny Ings in exchange for midfielder Yves Bissouma. The Seagulls struggle to score, so adding a proven and prolific Ings could do wonders. In fact, it’d be something to keep an eye on for FPL managers.

Other names set to leave Villa Park include Matt Targett, Bertrand Traore, Trezeguet, Anwar El Ghazi, Morgan Sanson and Leon Bailey. Additionally, there is uncertainty over Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings and Douglas Luiz.

Newcastle to raid Brighton for Bissouma and Trossard and target two wingers as transfer replacement for Saint-Maximin

Brighton’s Trossard linked with Newcastle move

Although an Ings arrival at Brighton may be undone by the potential departure of Leandro Trossard. The Daily Mail has linked the Belgian international with a summer move to Newcastle, as well as names like Brennan Johnson and Moussa Diaby.
