10 Tips for FPL Gameweek 37

If you’re looking for immediate ways to boost your Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ranking and beat mini-league rivals, we’re here with some Gameweek 37 tips.

Millions of managers currently have the same dilemma, with so much to consider before Friday 16 May’s 18:00 BST deadline.

Yet this advice has the potential to drastically improve your FPL season.

FPL GAMEWEEK 37 TIPS

Mbeumo + Bowen are safe picks

Although Bryan Mbeumo (£8.3m) underwhelmed captainers once again – just an assist in the 4-3 over Man United, then the same versus relegated Ipswich – he’s constantly producing, is guaranteed minutes and takes penalties. Brentford have four wins in a row, with a couple of nice-looking fixtures to come.

Meanwhile, Jarrod Bowen‘s (£7.7m) strike at Old Trafford makes in three goals and two assists in four matches. Go back further and you’ll see he’s blanked only six times in his last 18 league outings.

Don’t be scared to sell premiums

Expensive midfielders Mohamed Salah (£13.7m), Cole Palmer (£10.5m) and Bukayo Saka (£10.3m) are nowhere near good value right now. Between them, their 21 matches from Gameweek 30 onwards have accumulated six returns, one double-digit haul and a mere 70 points.

Salah may have recently broken FPL’s all-time season tally record but he didn’t even shoot against Arsenal, after no more than once the week before.

At least the below-£10.0m Alexander Isak (£9.5m) often scores when failing the eye test. He remains competitive too, as Newcastle seek Champions League qualification.

Time to take some punts

With this in mind, these closing May weeks are about guessing the right differential punts that can skyrocket managers towards a strong finish.

Pedro Neto (£6.1m) could play up front while Nicolas Jackson (£7.7m) is suspended. Over at Brentford, in-form Kevin Schade (£5.2m) has four goals in three, while Anthony Gordon (£7.4m) likes facing Arsenal.

Newcastle have beaten the Gunners on all three occasions this season, where he’s scored twice and set up another. Had VAR not intervened at St James’ Park, it’d be two assists.

Just don’t get Haaland

Elsewhere, numerous proactive managers reacted to Man City’s team news by buying Erling Haaland (£14.8m). Yet his trip to Southampton brought nothing, apart from a mere 0.05 expected goals (xG).

It’s a reminder from this season’s colder months that he’s not worth the high price. Throw in that the Norwegian is just back from injury and has a cup final before Gameweek 37, it’s probably best to stay away.

Marmoush + Merino need to go

Occasional out-of-position midfielder Mikel Merino (£6.0m) scored at Anfield but will be suspended versus his former club Newcastle. Also on the chopping block is the benched Omar Marmoush (£7.5m) and seemingly hurt Kieran Trippier (£5.7m).

What about Palace assets?

Sunday brought Crystal Palace their first league win in six. A welcome 11 points for Daniel Munoz (£5.2m), plus more joy for Eberechi Eze (£6.9m) – four goals in three.

But what happens against Wolves, three days after their Wembley cup clash? Ismaila Sarr (£5.6m) keeps frustrating his owners, while Eddie Nketiah (£5.9m) could very feasibly start over Jean-Philippe Mateta (£7.6m).

Aim for whoever faces Spurs + Man Utd

Also, it’s perhaps unwise to make Palace decisions based on their 2-0 win at Tottenham. After all, both Spurs and fellow Europa League finalists Man United are actively neglecting league outings, in preparation for their Bilbao showdown.

Expect such heavy rotation to continue on Friday night, when they travel to Aston Villa and Chelsea. In fact, Villa then go on to face Man United in Gameweek 38. That makes it reasonable to chase Morgan Rogers (£5.7m), Ollie Watkins (£8.9m) and a defence that’s already on consecutive clean sheets.

Emotional goodbyes are coming

Another, more romantic idea is to bank on cheerful farewells. A clean sheet for Everton in their final Goodison Park match would be lovely, despite it being the same Southampton that kept out Kevin De Bruyne‘s (£9.6m) five shots and four created chances.

The Belgian is about to have his last Etihad Stadium appearance, and over 1.7 million want him to go out on a high. Of course, not all goodbyes are happy ones, as Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) would point out.

Captaincy is a gut feeling

When it comes to FPL armbands, there are definitely weeks where following the crowd feels best, but there doesn’t appear to be an obvious contender this time. It’s a tricky call.

Over at Fantasy Football Scout, the ‘Rate My Team’ tool predicts Palmer then Salah as Gameweek 37’s best two. But, as mentioned, they’re not in great form. Maybe there can be a maverick Watkins captaincy, or the numbers of Mbeumo and Bowen.

Assistant Manager table bonus

Finally, six real-life managers can gain table bonus points for those using the Assistant Manager chip in Gameweek 37.

Two of them, unfortunately, are the aforementioned Spurs and Man United situations, while Southampton try to be Goodison Park party poopers. Andoni Iraola will want to catch Man City out after their cup final but the best two might be Graham Potter (West Ham v Nottingham Forest) and Fabian Hurzeler (Brighton v Liverpool).
