Thursday 26th May rumours

Various: Eddie Nketiah decides to stay at Arsenal

It’s being reported by the Guardian, the Athletic and the Evening Standard that Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah has changed his mind about leaving when his contract expires. Frustrated by a lack of playing time, the 22-year-old was set to leave for free in the summer.

FPL Comment: Until Gameweek 33, Nketiah had only played 166 minutes of the league campaign. But eight consecutive starts followed, seeing him bag five goals. It’s unknown whether it will be his shirt to lose but his next FPL starting price is likely to rise from this year’s £5.5m.

Times: Aston Villa close to signing Rangers centre-back Calvin Bassey

As feared by Rangers fans, former boss Steven Gerrard looks set to raid their squad. Defender Calvin Bassey impressed many in their Europa League final defeat and is believed to be closing in on a move to Aston Villa. This comes just as Villa announce they are buying Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos.

FPL Comment: What a strong start to the summer it has been for Villa. Permanent deals for Philippe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara, Diego Carlos and now potentially this. Their underlying defensive stats have excelled since Gerrard’s arrival and could make them an early target for FPL managers.

Mirror: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made available by Liverpool

According to John Cross, Liverpool are ready to sell midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for around £10m. The forgotten man has one year left on his contract and interests both Aston Villa and West Ham.

FPL Comment: An abysmal 777 minutes played is actually better than two of his previous three seasons. Oxlade-Chamberlain has neither played more than 1,718 minutes of a campaign nor bettered four goals. It would take something special to make him an FPL option.
