The top five punts for FPL Gameweek 38

Do you need to make a smart, calculated risk to burst up the rankings and mini-leagues? Thankfully, a list of the top five punts for FPL Gameweek 38 can help provide that final-day ‘Hail Mary’.

One more push is needed, whether it’s transfers or captaincy choices. Using LiveFPL, let’s pick out some appealing players owned by less than 10% of the top 100k.

It could turn out gloriously.

Five punts for Gameweek 38

Evanilson (£5.8m, Bournemouth)

In 4.18% of the top 100k heading into Gameweek 37, seeing the Brazilian be one of the most-bought assets since that deadline suggests he could get quite close to 10% by Sunday. You can see why, though.

He’s scored several times since Gameweek 28, when he returned to Bournemouth’s starting XI post-injury. At home to already-relegated Leicester, the Foxes previewed their lack of intent when announcing that Jamie Vardy‘s (£5.4m) farewell would be last Sunday instead of this.

Whether it’s to replace a possible Alexander Isak (£9.5m) injury or dispose of Omar Marmoush (£7.4m), Evanilson is a strong pick that’s hard to resist. He could even be trusted with FPL captaincy.

Justin Kluivert (£5.9m, Bournemouth)

Team-mate Kluivert was incredibly popular in early 2025. The penalty-taking midfielder peaked at around 3.5 million owners because of six goals and four assists between Gameweeks 21 and 28, including his second hat-trick of the season.

However, he’s produced nothing since, missing a few matches due to injury, whilst playing no more than 45 minutes in the latest two. That means overall ownership has plummeted to around one million – inside 3.39% of the top 100k.

Brajan Gruda (£5.4m, Brighton)

Even rarer is the Brighton attacker who was superb in Monday’s 3-2 comeback win over Liverpool. He set up five chances, including an assist, alongside four shots of his own.

Signed for £25m last summer, Gruda has struggled to break into the Seagulls’ lineup because of adaptation and fierce squad competition. But impressive recent cameos brought a goal at Wolves and two assists against West Ham.

Should we hear that he keeps his place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 20-year-old could be great when facing a Spurs side whose post-Europa League final attitude could be absolutely anything.

Sandro Tonali (£5.5m, Newcastle)

Another in fewer than 0.01% of this sample size is sensational Newcastle midfielder Tonali. The Italian may not be the first name that comes to mind when thinking of attack-minded punts for a traditionally goal-heavy Gameweek 38, but he has three of them plus an assist in his previous five home matches.

In this must-win fixture versus Everton, a repeat of Tonali’s second-minute opener past Chelsea would handily settle some Tyneside nerves.

Mikel Merino (£6.0m, Arsenal)

Finally, a former Magpies midfielder who has been used up front lately.

Arsenal have secured second place and may relax during their visit to Southampton, but Merino was suspended in Gameweek 37 and doesn’t need a rest. He’s netted five times in 11 league matches, sprinkling in a couple of recent Champions League strikes too.
