Arsenal and Manchester City Dumped Out of the Champions League!

The best captain in Gameweek 23

We find the best captain in Gameweek 23. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best captain in Gameweek 23 can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

Erling Haaland

Manchester City have been very reliable in front of goal this season. The league holders have netted an average of two or more goals per game this season. They face matches against Arsenal and Aston Villa in Gameweek 23. Both teams have been putting up average to strong underlying defensive stats. However the latter rank the second worst in the league for big chances conceded (20) and one player can take advantage of that.

Erling Haaland (£12.2m) continues to rampage his way through his first Premier League campaign. Scoring a mind blowing 25 goals in 20 games Haaland dominates amongst all players sitting as the highest scoring player in FPL.

If his basic numbers were not enough he he also ranks joint first for goals (seven), first for goals in the box (seven) and first for big chances total (13) amongst all players in the last six matches. This suggests that his elite offensive form could continue.

Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City are also performing well when it comes to creating. In the last six matches they rank first for passes in the opponents half (1977), first for passes in the final third (900), joint first for crosses (149) and second for chances created (83).

Kevin De Bruyne (£11.4m) is their main creator. No player in the league has created more fantasy assists (12), chances created (64) or big chances created (21) this season. The Belgian also ranks second amongst all players for expected goal involvement (13.36).

Kevin De Bruyne failed to start the last match in the Premier League. However he did feature which could suggest he starts both matches in Gameweek 23.

Marcus Rashford

Whilst many focus on the double Gameweek it could be wise to also consider players with a single Gameweek. Manchester United have been scoring plenty of goals lately. The Reds also rank joint second for goals (12), third for attempts on goal (85) and joint second for shots on target (28). Their offensive stats are convincing.

Manchester United face Leeds in Gameweek 23 and there is one player who stands out above the rest. That player is Marcus Rashford (£7.2m). The midfielder has banked a huge 47 points in his last six matches, averaging 7.8 points per game.

Rashford’s stats are also impressive. In the same six-match period amongst all players in the league he ranks first for goals scored (five) and third for attempts on goal (23), which is fantastic. Rashford looks to be in relentless form and that shows no sign of slowing down.

Conclusion

This week is very straight forward. Rashford is in great form but targeting a double Gameweek offers much more potential and a much higher ceiling. If looking to go different De Bruyne could be an option. However Haaland has been maintaining fantastic stats, great form and has two fixtures so the striker is the best captain in Gameweek 23.
