The best captain for Gameweek 38

We find the best captain for Gameweek 38. With the help of the Fantasy Football Scout members area we can use the season ticker and underlying stats to find the best captaincy option for the Gameweek ahead.

Captaincy is one of the most important decisions a manager can make in fantasy football. Writing up a shortlist of options can be helpful but picking out the best captain for Gameweek 38 can be even more important for FPL managers.

Fixture ticker

Below you can see teams near the top with the easier fixtures, going all the way down the table to teams with the tougher fixtures. The season ticker can be very helpful. However, won’t always give us the full story on which players make the best captaincy options.

Note: Rotation on the final day could be rife. Because of this, staying as active as possible on Twitter looking for line-up leaks ahead of the deadline could be absolutely key towards our captaincy decision.

The options – Erling Haaland

Manchester City go into the final round with the title already wrapped up. Its been a brilliant campaign from the relentless champions. In terms of attack their stats are also impressive. When compared to all teams this season they sit first for goals (94), second for attempts on goal (583), first for big chances total (131) and second for shots on target (212).

The league toppers face Brentford in the round ahead. The Bees will be hoping to beat Manchester City in an attempt to claim a Europa Conference League slot. Although they have had a very impressive season they also rank second worst in the league for attempts on goal conceded (195).

One player who could take advantage of his opponent is Erling Haaland (£12.4m). The Norwegian is the highest scoring and highest owned player in the game. This is a constant reminder of his explosiveness and reliability going into any given match. His 272 points consist of an incredible 36 goals and eight assists.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool could also be lacking motivation coming into Gameweek 38. The Reds have guaranteed themselves fifth place and Europa League football for next season. Focusing on their attacking data, this season amongst all teams they rank joint third for goals (71), first for shots in the box (416) and second for big chances total (120).

Southampton lay ahead for Liverpool. The Saints have officially been relegated to the Championship after a torrid campaign. To highlight Southampton’s defensive fragilities, they have conceded the third most goals in the league this season (69). In addition, more recently, Southampton have also shipped a huge three or more goals in four of their last six games.

Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) is the standout attacker in the Liverpool frontline. The Egyptian midfielder has bagged a return in five of his last six matches including three double-digit hauls. Amongst all players in the last six Gameweeks the penalty taker also rank fourth best for attempts on goal (22), third for shots in the box (19) and joint third for big chances total (six).

Harry Kane

Tottenham have huge motivation going into Gameweek 38. A positive result for Spurs could see them reach a Europa Conference League slot. This increases the chances of them fielding their best squad and give their best players the hunger to do well.

Relegation battling Leeds stand ahead. Leeds have been defensively poor for the majority of the season. This can be reflected in their seasonal stats. In fact, Leeds rank as the worst team in the league for goals conceded (74) and the worst for big chances total (108). They have also conceded two or more goals in five of their last six matches in the league, further highlighting their defensive fragilities.

The standout option in the Tottenham attack is of course Harry Kane (£11.4m). The striker sits as the second highest scorer in FPL this season. More recently, to emphasise his great run he has managed a return in each of his last six matches. Amongst all players in the league this season he also ranks second for goals scored (28), first for attempts on goal (127) and third for shots in the box (95).

Who is the best captain for Gameweek 38?

All three options could have huge potential this week and there is very little between them. However, Liverpool’s and Manchester City’s potential lack of motivation and the rotation risk of their assets could give Harry Kane the edge. Not only is Harry Kane likely to play 90 minutes unlike the other two options, he is also in a fantastic run of returning form as of late. The fact he also faces the worst defence in the league this season is an additional factor to support his selection.
