The 2022 World Cup groups
The men’s Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 is set to start on the 20th of November. We go through each group with our brief thoughts on how each group may play out. We also pick out some of the favourites to progress onto the advanced stages of the competition.
With the World Cup approaching, we can start our early planning for the World Cup Fantasy game. There is no due date for the fantasy game, for that reason getting ourselves up to speed with some of the key details could be beneficial.
Group A
Notes
- The Netherlands will be the favourite to win Group A.
- Senegal could be a team to look out for. The African side won the African Cup of Nations and have world class quality within their team.
- It could be that hosts Qatar and Ecuador fight it out for third place.
Group B
Notes
- England are favourites to win this group.
- British teams England and Wales will face-off in what could be a hindrance to England’s efforts.
- Iran, USA and Wales all have the quality to advance. For that reason, we could see some tightly contested matches between the sides.
Group C
Notes
- Argentina will be favourites to win this group. Saudi Arabia will also be favourites to finish bottom.
- Poland and Mexico have a lot of quality within their teams, both will be looking to challenge each other and Argentina.
Group D
Notes
- France will be favourites to win this group.
- Denmark could well be the competitions ‘dark horses’. The Danes have fantastic players but an even better team. Together they will push the French right until the end.
- Tunisia impressed during the African Cup of Nations. They also have great quality and possess significant defensive capabilities.
- Australia look the least favourite to progress here.
Group E
Notes
- There is a feeling that both Spain and Germany will be favourites here.
- Japan, could be another team that may be underrated here. Their quality and overall form could well cause some issues for Spain and Germany. We could see Japan surprise football fans.
- Costa Rica will be the least favourites to progress.
Group F
Notes
- This could well be labelled the ‘group of death’.
- However, Belgium and Croatia will likely be the favourites.
- Canada and Morocco have shown they have some qualities.
- We would not be surprised to see any team top the group or progress here.
Group G
Notes
- This is another very open group, excluding Brazil as they are clear favourites to advance.
- There would be no shocks to see either Serbia, Switzerland or Cameroon also progress.
Group H
Notes
- Portugal are the favourites to progress here.
- Ghana, Korea Republic, and Uruguay all have great quality and very good individual players to keep an eye on. All three sides could be battling it out to advance.
