Teams with Something to Play for in Gameweek 38

In this article we take a look at teams with something to play for in Gameweek 38. Whether they are vying for the Premier League title, chasing Champions League Qualification, aiming for a Europa League spot or simply trying to avoid relegation, we cover them all.

Knowing which teams have something to play for in Gameweek 38 could be extremely useful to FPL managers. Motivation is a massive factor when trying to select players with potential. Motivation can be the difference between a successful and an unsuccessful asset.

The Premier League Title

Only two teams have the potential to claim the Premier League title on the final day. Both Manchester City and Arsenal will be hoping a win will be enough to secure England’ biggest prize. The former champions Manchester City need just a win to secure the title and so appear to be favourites.

Arsenal need more than just a win against Everton this week. The Gooners also need Manchester City to lose or draw. If Manchester City do draw however Arsenal need to make sure they have a better goal difference.

Taking the above into account both Arsenal and Manchester City will have massive motivation going into Gameweek 38, thus making their assets much more investable.

European Spots

Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa have all secured their place in the 24/25 Champions League campaign. Whilst Manchester City and Arsenal battle for the title both Liverpool and Aston Villa go into the final day with nothing to play for.

At the time of writing a fifth-place finish is enough to claim Europa League football. If Tottenham can avoid a loss to Sheffield United they they will take that spot. Chelsea are the only side who can take that spot away from them but they would need Spurs to lose and for them to beat Bournemouth.

Chelsea will also secure sixth if they do not lose to Bournemouth, meaning they will claim a Europa Conference League slot for 23/24.

However, if Bournemouth beat Chelsea then Newcastle will advance into sixth with a win against Brentford. Manchester United are level on points with Newcastle but have a hugely inferior goal difference. This means the Reds are highly unlikely to move above Chelsea.

The FA Cup Factor

Due to relegation all but settled, Burnley, Luton and Sheffield United have nothing to play for. They join West Ham, Brighton, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Wolves, Fulham, Everton, Brentford and Nottingham Forest with nothing to play for other than additional funds.

With all of the above in mind, teams with something to play for in Gameweek 38 include Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United. For those that believe a top half finish is enough motivation then you could also add Brighton, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Wolves to that list.
