Should You Triple Captain Solanke?
Bournemouth will face both Sheffield United and Luton Town at home in Double Gameweek 28.
Naturally, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will be keen to target Cherries talisman Dominic Solanke (£7.1m). But, for those who are yet to play it, should the Triple Captain chip be deployed?
In this Members article, we look at some of the pros and cons.
WHAT’S THE LATEST ON SOLANKE’S FITNESS?
Solanke missed Bournemouth’s FA Cup defeat to Leicester City last week. This was due to a knee issue, with initial fears that it could rule him out of Gameweek 27. However, the 26-year-old started and completed 88 minutes at Burnley on Sunday, as Bournemouth claimed a much-needed 2-0 win.
It appears concerns over Solanke’s fitness have now eased, with Andoni Iraola backing him to get back to his best with further training.
In an interview with Sky Sports’ Ben Ransom, the player himself suggested he’d “be fine” for Double Gameweek 28.
SOLANKE TRIPLE CAPTAIN: THE PROS
- Bournemouth face both Sheffield United and Luton at home, two of the worst defences in the Premier League. The pair have combined for just three clean sheets all season, conceding 72 and 54 goals respectively at an average of 2.67/2.08 per match. The defensive numbers make for particularly grim reading:
- Solanke is FPL’s third-highest scoring forward this year, having netted 14 times in 26 starts. An integral part of his team’s approach under Iraola, his underlying stats offer further encouragement, with 3.11 shots per 90 minutes a very decent rate for a striker. Indeed, among all forwards to have played at least 1,000 minutes in the Premier League this term, only four – Darwin Nunez (4.89), Erling Haaland (4.41), Gabriel Jesus (3.30) and Ollie Watkins (3.21) – have better. Using the same criteria, Solanke sits sixth for non-penalty expected goals (NPxG) per 90 minutes, with 0.56, highlighting his ability to get shots off in threatening positions. Creatively, Solanke ranks joint-fifth in his position for chances created (24) and combined well with right-winger Antoine Semenyo (£4.5m) on Sunday, almost claiming an assist.
