Serie A Fantasy Round 9 Top Picks

The new season continues so we reveal the Serie A Fantasy Round 9 top picks. Regular contributor and Serie A expert @FPL_Crisk comes in to pick out two of the best players in each position for the new round.

It isn’t long before the new Gameweek commences. So, knowing which players have the most potential could be hugely beneficial. Getting off to a good start in every fantasy game is important for both rank and mini-league position.

Goalkeepers – Devis Vasquez (€4.2m – 16.0%)

We’re almost 25% into the season, and at this point I suggest everyone having (at least) one of the six goalkeepers who have averaged over six points per Round: Vasquez, Svilar, Sommer, Di Gregorio, Maignan and De Gea. The Empoli shot stopper is first on that list, mainly because of how much the Tuscan side have impressed defensively. At his price he can easily be a bench option for the future should this trend come to an end.

Maduka Okoye (€4.8m – 4.7%)

If you don’t own any of the top goalkeepers, Okoye seems to be the next best thing, averaging exactly six points per Round. Cagliari have improved offensively in the last few weeks, but it should still be a very good fixture for Udinese.

Defenders – Alessandro Buongiorno (€6.8m – 19.1%)

I keep alternating between Buongiorno and Di Lorenzo on this list, which could come to an end after this Round as the Napoli fixtures exponentially increase in difficulty from next week. As far as this Round is concerned, Napoli host one of the weakest teams in Serie A. Lecce have only scored three goals since the start of the season and come from a 0-6 home defeat to Fiorentina. Napoli defenders are also very viable captaincy options.

Nuno Tavares (€4.8m – 7.9%)

He was subbed due to cramps against Juve, which hopefully means he will be fully fit for the home match against Genoa in the next Round. Lazio are at the start of a very nice run of six good consecutive fixtures. Tavares, between his assists and likely clean sheet points, could be the standout pick from his team.

Midfielders – Nico Paz (€4.4m – 3.4%)

Real Madrid have let go of a gem. One goal and two assists might not sound like the craziest output, but the eye test tells a different story. Como’s attacking potential mostly comes from the creativity and quality with the ball of the Spanish youngster. The underlying data is also very good: over 0.35 in both his xG/90 and xA/90. His next opponent are Torino, who have conceded 11 goals in their last four fixtures and have just lost to Cagliari.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (€11.4m – 53.0%)

Conte has shown himself unafraid of making tough decisions. In fact, during the match against Empoli he even subbed a fresh Romelu Lukaku because the Belgian wasn’t playing up to the coach’s standards. Kvara profited from the sub and scored a penalty, which is a good sign for the future. Lecce are in a deep crisis and will be a very tasty opponent for the Georgian superstar. This is easily the most predictable fixture of the weekend, I hardly expect anything surprising from it.

Forwards – Valentin Castellanos (€6.8m – 20.0%)

The Argentinian Lazio forward is more owned than I expected. He has been kind of quiet in the last few weeks but I think his next match against Genoa could be a great opportunity to get back on the scoresheet. Despite Dia scoring as many as him (three goals each), Castellanos boasts a much higher xG/90 (0.73 vs 0.34).

Mateo Retegui (€6.4m – 55.2%)

Retegui has become impressively consistent this season, only failing to score three times in eight games. The fact that his price is so affordable is very interesting, because it leaves managers with a bunch of money to invest in other areas of the pitch in many different ways. His next opponent is Verona, who just conceded three home goals to Monza. As long as Gasperini doesn’t rotate, Retegui is a prime pick.
