Serie A Fantasy Round 1 Top Picks
The new season is finally here so we reveal the Serie A Fantasy Round 1 top picks. Regular contributor and Serie A expert @FPL_Crisk comes in to pick out two of the best players in each position for the opening round of campaign.
It isn’t long before the new Gameweek commences so knowing which players have the most potential could be hugely beneficial. Getting off to a good start in every fantasy game is important for both rank and mini-league position.
Goalkeepers – Yann Sommer (€7.0m – 10.3%)
Sommer being priced so highly has really hurt his ownership, making him almost a differential. Nevertheless, he remains the most nailed option in Inter’s defence (I wouldn’t look to much into their performances in pre-season).
Mile Svilar (€5.0m – 22.7%)
Currently leading the goalkeepers in terms of ownership. Roma can count on continuity from last season (they’re one of the few top teams not changing up managers) and on a great first run of fixtures. A debut game against a lacklustre Cagliari is also very favourable for Svilar owners.
Defenders – Alessandro Buongiorno (€6.6m – 14.6%)
Last season Buongiorno performed really well, both in Fantasy and in actual football, gaining himself a move to Napoli. Under Conte the team can improve defensively, and Buongiorno (already a good threat on set pieces) can benefit slightly offensively from playing LCB instead of his usual central role.
Gleison Bremer (€7.0m – 23.2%)
The Brazilian defender is the centrepiece of Juventus’ backline. Thiago Motta can maintain Juve’s defensive numbers to the level of last season, starting with an opening game against Como, one of the newly promoted teams, at home.
Midfielders – Christian Pulisic (€9.0m – 22.3%)
Fantasy managers seem very split between Pulisic and Leao when it comes to choosing a Milan attacker other than Morata. There is just 1.5% ownership between the two wingers, but this year the American could also be playing more centrally, as he’s been tried at CAM in pre-season, where he impressed a lot. Torino’s defence has been rehauled this season, so I’m expecting Milan to do well in their opening game.
Mattia Zaccagni (€7.0m – 19.9%)
With the change of manager at Lazio, Zaccagni is now in a more important role than ever at Lazio. He’s been gifted the captain armband by the new manager, and will take most penalties and set pieces after the departure of Ciro Immobile. Lazio begin the season against arguably the worst team in the league in Venezia, which also explains his solid ownership despite a lacklustre previous season.
Forwards – Lautaro Martinez (€12.0m – 60.8%)
He’s the most expensive player in the game but he’s also the most reliable forward in the game by far as he showed last season. Many people have doubts on his fitness level after just returning from international duty, but in my opinion there is no downside in owning him against Genoa given the low ceiling most other forwards seem to have.
Artem Dovbyk (€9.0m – 16.4%)
The Ukrainian forward is one of the most exciting new additions to Serie A this season. Roma have one of the best starting runs of fixtures, so I can see why jumping on the bandwagon before the template could benefit his owners.
