Introduction
Welcome back to my Serie A Fantasy expert team reveal for Round 23. Here, I pen down my thoughts
about the team and my transfers if any. I also discuss my captain for each upcoming GW.
Now, back to the article. Looking at Round 22 first, I again got 72 points with a GW average of 56
points. It was yet another small green arrow again that took me from 459th to 387th worldwide
and now 3rd in Germany after GW22.
The stars of the GW for me were Yann Sommer who saved a penalty and ended the GW with
15 points and Andrea Colpani. He scored yet another goal at home and finished the GW with 11
points.
Looking at the fixtures in GW23, the teams to target are Napoli, Milan and Roma.
I plan to save transfers for the first double GW of the season in GW24 and bigger in DGW26.
Round 23 Team Reveal (subject to change)
Goalkeeper
- Yann Sommer (€5.8m) – Sommer is back in goal after yet another sensational performance for Inter. He saved a penalty and kept a clean sheet last week. Sommer has been by far the most reliable GK in Serie A this season both in terms of security of starts and source of consistent points. He currently sits atop the list of GKs with the most points after GW22 with 10 double-digit hauls to boast in just 22 GWs.
Defenders
- Theo Hernandez (€7m) – My first defender for GW23 will be Theo Hernandez from AC Milan. It was a shame that Theo was not able to convert his penalty in GW22. But, I guess these things can happen in football. He is in my eyes the best LB in the world and the last few GWs have shown why. Milan will be playing Frosinone away from home in GW23 and I expect a return to form from Theo.
- Gleison Bremer (€6m) – My second defender in GW23 will be Bremer from Juventus. Since I transferred him in a few GWs ago he has not disappointed. He currently sits at the top of the defenders list with the most points. With Danilo in the line-up again, it has further strengthened the Juventus defence and increased the potential for many clean sheets. Juventus do have Inter in yet another “Derby Di Italia” with stakes being higher than ever. With a goal in GW21 and an 18-pointer GW, Bremer starts for me as I do expect a very cagey encounter which could end up in a goalless draw.
- Danilo (€6.6m) – My third defender in GW23 will be Danilo from Juventus. When he is on the pitch he is the mainstay in the Juventus backline along with Bremer. I do not like the double-up in the Juventus defence against Inter. But, given the stakes, as I mentioned above I do feel like a 0-0 brewing.
- Giovanni Di Lorenzo (€7m) – Both Di Lorenzo and Napoli have dropped off a cliff in terms of performance. Napoli have only managed to keep six clean sheets in 22 games. Di Lorenzo last season was a revelation at RB with goals and assists helping Napoli to the Scudetto. He will have to bring back some of that form to remain in our team long-term. Napoli play Verona at home and it could end up being a good time to own him.
Midfielders
- Paulo Dybala (€12m) – Dybala was back doing what he does best in GW22 with a decisive penalty to help Roma get a win. With him in that creative CAM role, Roma look like an entirely different team every time. His creative prowess have been on display whenever he starts and Lukaku also becomes a better asset because of Dybala. He will also be a great captaincy shout for this upcoming GW as Roma play Cagliari at home.
- Albert Gudmundsson (€6m) – Gudmundsson has been one of the league’s revelations this year with nine goals and two assists in just 22 games for Genoa. He has transitioned from a CAM/LW to an ST role this year because of Retegui’s recent injury problems and he has embraced the role. He sits second now in the most points list for midfielders in Serie A Fantasy and at just 6M, he is an absolute bargain.
- Morten Frendrup (€4.4m) – My cheap enabler is Frendrup. He now has racked up 110 TBIs in just 22 games which is the highest in the league by 17 TBIs. Frendrup gives owners assurance that no matter what he can always get anywhere between 5-7 points every GW. He will be up against Empoli in GW23 and I expect a load of TBI points again at the very least.
Forwards
- Oliver Giroud (€8.8m) – My first playing forward for GW23 will be Oliver Giroud. He has been great for me since I transferred him in in GW17. He did miss a penalty last GW but I still expect him to remain the first penalty taker for Milan. Giroud now has 10 goals and seven assists in 21 starts for Milan sharing the Talisman duties with Leao. He will want to get on the score sheet again in GW23 when Milan faces Frosinone away from home. Giroud is also a viable option for captaincy this week.
- Romelu Lukaku (€9.2m) – Lukaku now has nine goals and one assist in 19 starts for Roma and is sharing the role of talisman with Paulo Dybala. Roma play Cagliari in GW23 and Lukaku will look to make his mark especially playing at home in a new 4231 system implemented by new coach De Rossi.
- Joshua Zirkzee (€5.2m) – Another player of the season so far in Serie A has been Zirkzee who now has eight goals and two assists in 22 games and got yet another goal vs Milan in GW22. Bologna have a good run of fixtures but importantly, Zirkzee will have a DGW in MD24 against Fiorentina and Lecce and could easily be in the captaincy conversation next week. As for this GW he has Sassuolo at home and they are a team known to leak goals.
Captaincy
At the moment of writing this article captaincy is currently on Dybala for reasons I have mentioned above. Theo Hernandez and Oliver Giroud are also in the running as things stand.
