Pre-season matches and implications

We take a look at the pre-season matches and implications they could have for FPL managers and our teams. With the help of the Premier League Football News, Fixtures, Scores & Results we can pick out key details and hot topics in the community to help provide us with some relevant information.

Pre-season friendlies can be really helpful for fantasy managers. Looking for team and player form, team structure and systems and looking out for additional information like injuries and minutes played. This gives us an edge ahead of the managers that are not monitoring things like this.

FC Nurnberg 3-5 Arsenal

FPL community favourite Gabriel Jesus scored in under two minutes of coming on the pitch for Arsenal. This started a comeback as the Germans lead 2-0 at half time. The £8m Brazilian forward managed to top off his debut with a brace and was even involved in the other goals too.

Popular Arsenal assets Saka (£8m midfielder), Martinelli (£6m midfielder), Tomiyasu and Ben White (£4.5m defenders) did not start the game. Several other first team players Emile Smith Rowe (£6m midfielder), Tierney (£5m defender) and Nketiah (£7m forward) all started the match.

Midfielder Martinelli managed to make an impact when he came on second half. The Brazilian managed an assist whilst forward Nketiah also managed to match that before coming off.

Walsall 0-4 Aston Villa

A solid win for Aston Villa starting with new signing Carlos (£5m defender) and captain Mings (£4.5m defender), both at centre-back. Leon Bailey (£5m midfielder) also started the match after struggling with injuries last season. The winger managed to score within the first 10 minutes after smashing the ball into the roof of the net. FPL managers will be keeping a close eye on Bailey especially because of his price.

The second half saw forwards Danny Ings (£7m) and Ollie Watkins (£7.5m) feature, the latter also getting onto the score sheet which reflects his outperformance of team mate Ings last season.

Boreham Wood 0-2 Brentford

Brentford regular at the back Henry (£4.5m defender) started in the first half. Attackers Wissa (£5.5m midfielder) and Mbeumo, both being monitored by FPL managers ahead of the new season. Mbeumo changed from a midfielder to a forward in FPL this season with the £6m man scoring a penalty to secure the first goal.

The bees started the second half with a different line-up making mass changes. Toney came on second half to get the £7m forward some minutes under his belt. Toney not playing in the second half explains why Mbeumo took the first half penalty.

Brighton 0-0 Union Saint-Gilloise

Starting the match you can see first team defenders Cucurella (£5m) started alongside another favourite with £4.5m Dunk. Both players will be monitored by FPL managers ahead of the new season after rumours of a move to Man City for Cucurella and Dunk coming in at a cheaper price than usual.

£4.5m defenders Veltman, Webster and another community favourite Lamptey all featured in the second half. Forwards Maupay (£6.5m) and brand new signing Deniz Undav (£5.5m) both played in the second half. Undav who has appeared quite regularly in FPL managers drafts will be high on everybody’s watchlist ahead of the new season.

Leeds 4-0 Blackpool

No sign of new signings Aaronson the £5.5m midfielder and Kristensen the £5m defender in this one. Leeds regulars Firpo (£4.5m defender), Meslier (£4.5m goalkeeper), Jack Harrison (£6m midfielder) and Rodrigo (£6m midfielder) all started the match.

Defender Firpo could be side lined for up to eight weeks as reported here: Every Leeds United game Junior Firpo will miss as Jesse Marsch reveals huge injury lay-off | Yorkshire Evening Post.

Goals came from Rodrigo, Firpo, Koch and Fernandez to see Leeds complete a comfortable win with no sign of striker Patrick Bamford (£7.5m)

Man United 4-0 Liverpool

Man United started the game strong in terms of their line-up. 11 first team players made the starting line-up where as Liverpool only started with four regular first team players. Man United went ahead when Bruno Fernandes (£10m midfielder) assisted the first goal with a cross that was slotted in by Jadon Sancho (£7.5m midfielder), both coming in much cheaper this season in FPL. Rashford (£6.5m midfielder) did start the game but failed to contribute towards the goals officially

Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz (£8m midfielder) did start the game but only played 34 minutes. Liverpool waited until the 61st minute to give favourites Salah, Trent, Robertson some minutes. All failed to make an impact with the final result finishing 4-0.
