Arsenal and Manchester City Dumped Out of the Champions League!

New signings so far

There have already been a number of new signings at the Premier League clubs so far this window. We take a look at some of the key new arrivals for FPL.

Our summer transfer window new signings article is tracking the new signings as they happen. Here we take a look in a bit more depth at some of the key new arrivals so far.

Ivan Perisic – Tottenham

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is known for his love of a wingback. His teams have a history of utilising the wingback system to ensure quick attacking play. Perisic has played as a wingback for Conte before when the Spurs manager was in charge at Inter. The new Spurs signing is however very versatile having also been deployed as a forward by Conte previously.

Perisic is a proven winner who over the course of his career has won:

  • 2009 Belgium Footballer of the Year – Club Brugges
  • Bundesliga 2011 – Borussia Dortmund
  • German Cup (DFB-Pokal) 2011 – Borussia Dortmund
  • DFB-Pokal  2013 – Wolfsburg
  • DFL-Supercup 2013 – Wolfsburg
  • UEFA Champions League winner 2020 – Bayern Munich
  • Bundesliga 2020 – Bayern Munich
  • DFB-Pokal 2020 – Bayern Munich
  • Serie A 2021 – Inter
  • Coppa Italia 2022 – Inter
  • Supercoppa Italiana 2022 – Inter

In his first interview for Spurs Perisic said:

I’m going to bring, first of all, a lot of hard work. I like to work a lot, I like to work for the team because only like this you can win something important. I can play several positions in the system Tottenham is playing now. I’ll bring a lot of experience as well, I’ve played for a lot of great clubs and, like I said, I can’t wait to start to play, to train and give my best. It’s a privilege to work again with a coach like this. We did well at Inter, won the league after 10 or 11 years, it was a perfect year. I’m really happy to see him again. I think we’re going to do some good things here in England.

Perisic when interviewed by Spurs after he signed a two year contract.

FPL impact

FPL managers will wait to see what position Perisic is added to the game. Most of his game time will likely come from the wingback position which could bring great FPL returns. His flexibility is also great for FPL in terms of his potential minutes.

Diego Carlos – Aston Villa

Diego Carlos is a Brazilian central defender. Over the last three seasons he has played in almost all of Sevilla’s matches in the domestic league and in European matches. He has played 136 matches in three seasons. He also appeared in the 2020 Europa League final when Sevilla beat Inter Milan. The defender also scored three goals in LaLiga last season.

FPL impact

Diego Carlos will offer some indirect threat from set pieces which will be attractive to FPL managers. He also has excellent underlying stats for passes, blocks and aerial duels which will bode well in the bonus points system. His underlying stats in the Champions League fantasy game could offer great potential for FPL managers, especially if Aston Villa’s defensive numbers reflect their 2020/21 numbers.

Brenden Aaronson – Leeds

FPL Reactions has taken an in depth look at Leeds’ new signing Aaronson. You can read more about the midfielder here.
