Most Popular Players in FPL

The Official Fantasy Premier League game has finally launched! This means that we have access to all of its fantastic features. It also means that we can take a look at the most popular players in FPL by focusing on their ownership so far.

The most popular players in FPL are usually the most popular for a reason. Taking a look through them could be extremely helpful when it comes to building our drafts. It could also help decide who stays in your squads come Gameweek 1.

The player with the most ownership upon launch is Ollie Watkins (£9m) with 56.8%. Watkins was the third highest scoring player and top scoring forward in the game last season. With fixtures against West Ham, Arsenal, Leicester, Everton, Wolves and Ipswich in the first six games so his ownership comes as no surprise.

Three players have more than 50% ownership and Cole Palmer (£10.5m) is one of them. The Chelsea midfielder topped every other player in the game last season for points. Manchester City in Gameweek 1 doesn’t seem to have put many FPL managers off, that could be because Palmer faces Wolves, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, West Ham and Brighton immediately after.

One of two Newcastle players to make the top five is Alexander Isak (£8.5m). The 24-year-old produced a huge 21 goals in just 30 matches, along with two assists. Newcastle have some fantastic starting fixtures against the likes of newly promoted Southampton, Bournemouth, Tottenham, Wolves and Fulham.

The Arsenal defence was the best in the league last season so it makes sense for William Saliba (£6m) to sit as the highest owned defender in the game. What is interesting is that the Frenchman also ended the 23/24 campaign as the highest owned defender so nothing has changed it seems.

Completing the top five is Anthony Gordon (£7.5m). As well as having a fantastic starting schedule Gordon was brilliant last season. In fact, as well as hitting double digits for goals and assists he produced four assists and two goals in his last six matches of the 23/24 campaign.

More Popular Players

Amongst the rest of the top 10 we can see three Manchester City players. Of them it’s Phil Foden (£9.5m) with the most ownership (32.7%). Foden ended his previous campaign with 19 goals and eight assists. Erling Haaland has just 31.2% ownership, but that could be largely down to his £15m starting price. Completing the Manchester City trio is defender Josko Gvardiol (£6m) who scored his four Premier League goals last season in his last 10 games.

Crystal Palace penalty taker Eberechi Eze (£7m) is also very popular. The Eagles scored 12 goals in their last three matches of the previous campaign and with great fixtures ahead, buying into their frontline could be beneficial, something the FPL community have evidently picked up on.

Liverpool play Ipswich, Brentford, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth in their first five fixtures. This fixture run is good enough to invest in and that has made Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) a key target for FPL managers.
