Most Popular FPL Picks for Gameweek 9

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at the top 10 most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 9. Using the Official Fantasy Premier League ownership data we can find out who the fantasy football community are picking ahead of the new round.

Taking a look at the most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 9 can be hugely enlightening for fantasy managers. Knowing who the majority are selecting within their sides can help you make moves in your team ahead of the eighth round.

Note: Ownership statistics will inevitably change throughout the week.

1. Erling Haaland – 73.7% Ownership

Erling Haaland

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland (£15.4m) remains the highest owned player in the game ahead of the deadline. The Norwegian has a lovely fixture against a Southampton side who have shipped three goals in four of their last five matches this week.

2. Cole Palmer – 50.3% Ownership

Cole Palmer celebrate his goal

Cole Palmer (£10.8m) solidifies his position as the second most popular pick. Chelsea go into their next match against an inconsistent Newcastle defence having managed to score the second most goals in the league currently. The Magpies are worse away from home so it could be a good opportunity for Palmer.

3. Mohamed Salah – 38.3% Ownership

Liverpool have one of the toughest fixtures on paper this week. Arne Slot’s men come into direct contact with fellow title challengers Arsenal. Liverpool will need to be at their best to get a result, which could mean turning to Mohamed Salah (£12.6m).

4. Bukayo Saka – 32.9% Ownership

Returning to the top four is Bukayo Saka (£10.1m). As mentioned Arsenal and Liverpool meet this week which could be hugely significant towards the title race. Fortunately the Gooners have Saka who started the campaign excellently – bagging at least one goal contribution in all but one of his matches this season.

5. Luis Diaz – 32.9% Ownership

Luiz Diaz scores for Liverpool

Luis Diaz (£8m) drops into fifth this week. Diaz seems to be losing favour with FPL managers for several reasons. As well as failing to start in Gameweek 7 against Crystal Palace Diaz also faces some tough fixtures ahead.

The Rest of the Top 10

The clash between Arsenal and Liverpool will be an important one for FPL managers. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya (£5.6m), centre-back William Saliba (£6m) and Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.1m) all feature in the remaining five. Owners will have a tough decision around whether to start, bench or even sell their assets ahead of the game.

Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro (£5.5m) maintains the same position as the previous round. Porro owners will be hoping that he cashes in on his impressive attacking this week against an out of sorts Crystal Palace side.

With more than 29% ownership and squeezing into the most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 9 is Ollie Watkins (£9.1m). Six returns in his last five matches suggests Watkins has the form to punish Bournemouth at home this week.
