Taking a look at the most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 5 can be hugely enlightening for fantasy managers. Knowing who the majority are selecting within their sides can help you make moves in your team ahead of the third round.
Note: Ownership statistics will inevitably change throughout the week.
1. Erling Haaland – 67% Ownership
Manchester City face their toughest opposition yet. The current champions come up against Arsenal next up who maintained the best defensive numbers in the league last season. That may be the case but their main man Erling Haaland (£15.2m) still has more ownership than any other player. This may be mostly due to his recent back-to-back hattricks.
2. Mohamed Salah – 45% Ownership
Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) climbs up to second place after sitting in third last week. This won’t come as a surprise either after consecutive double-digit hauls in his first three matches. The Egyptian faces Bournemouth next up who sit amongst some of the worst sides in the league for several defensive stats.
3. Alexander Isak – 41% Ownership
A goal and an assist in his first three matches doesn’t seem to be enough for Alexander Isak (£8.5m) owners. The Newcastle striker has slowly slipped down in terms of ownership and with a match against Fulham next up that trend could continue.
4. Cole Palmer – 39% Ownership
A non-mover this week is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (£10.6m). The highest scoring player in the FPL last season has started the new campaign in fine form with four assists and a goal already. Palmer faces a meeting with West Ham next up who at the time of writing have conceded more shots in the box than any other side.
5. William Saliba – 37% Ownership
Another non mover since Gameweek 4 is William Saliba (£6m). Arsenal have started the season strong defensively but this week could be a different proposition entirely. Manchester City lay ahead for Arsenal so we could well see Saliba’s ownership drop as we approach the deadline. The lovely schedule ahead however could suggest holding onto Saliba a wise move.
The Rest of the Top 10
Filling up two spots in the rest of the top 10 is Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka (£10.1m) and David Raya (£5.5m). It could be a tough week for both taking into account Manchester City’s early and relentless form.
Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro (£5.5m) keeps his sixth place spot from Gameweek 4. A meeting with Brentford could be a good opportunity for both clean sheet and attacking potential.
Recent form justifies why Brighton penalty taker Joao Pedro (£5.7m) has crept into the top 10 this week. The Brazilian scored in both Gameweek 2 and 3 and has a great opportunity to add to that total against Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7m) keeps his eighth placed position. As well as keeping three clean sheets in his first three matches Trent has also been producing fantastic attacking data. That of which he takes into a home tie against Bournemouth.
