Taking a look at the most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 3 can be hugely enlightening for fantasy managers. Knowing who the majority are selecting within their sides can help you make moves in your team ahead of the third round.
Note: Ownership statistics will inevitably change throughout the week.
1. Alexander Isak – 58% Ownership
The player with the highest ownership going into Gameweek 3 is Alexander Isak (£8.5m). The Newcastle striker racked up a huge 21 goals last season making him one of the highest scoring forwards in the game.
Newcastle scored the second most goals at home last season which is a venue they play at this week. Tottenham lay ahead but after a shaky performance in Gameweek 1 the London side could remain a defence to target.
2. Erling Haaland – 54% Ownership
The second most popular player for Gameweek 3 is Erling Haaland (£15m). Haaland faces a West Ham side who ranked in the worst five teams for multiple defensive metrics last season. They also shipped two goals in Gameweek 1 which suggests they are yet to tighten up defensively.
3. William Saliba – 40% Ownership
Similar to the 23/24 season William Saliba (£6m) continues to feature heavily amongst the most popular picks. This may come as no surprise due to the fact Arsenal continued their defensive solidarity of the previous campaign in Gameweek 1 after picking up a clean sheet.
4. Mohamed Salah – 37% Ownership
Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) secures his position in the top five after a Gameweek 1 masterclass. There he produced a goal and an assist against newly promoted side Ipswich. Liverpool face rivals Manchester United next up and it’s a fixture that the Egyptian tends to thrive in.
5. Cole Palmer – 34.3%
Another side who have a near perfect record against their upcoming opposition is Chelsea. The Blues didn’t start the season well so they will be eager to pick up three points but both they and star man Cole Palmer (£10.5m) will have to do that against a Crystal Palace side who maintained some of the best defence statistics in the league last season.
The Rest of the Top 10
All five players who make up the remaining top 10 have more than 30% ownership.
Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol (£6m) tops the list after securing a clean sheet in Gameweek 1 against Chelsea. He is joined by fellow defender Pedro Porro (£5.5m). The Tottenham full-back failed to register a clean sheet but balanced the books with a goal in the first round.
The bottom three are made up of hugely influential players for teams. Arsenal midfielder Bukayo Saka (£10m) produced a goal and an assist in the first round whilst Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze (£7m) failed to convert his excellent data into anything of significance. Completing the top 10 most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 3 is Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins (£9m) who faces newly promoted Leicester next.
