Most Popular FPL Picks for Gameweek 21

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at the top 10 most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 21. Using the Official Fantasy Premier League ownership data we can find out who the fantasy football community are picking ahead of the new round.

Taking a look at the most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 21 can be hugely enlightening for fantasy managers. Knowing who the majority are selecting within their sides can help you make moves in your team ahead of the new round.

Note: Ownership statistics will inevitably change throughout the week

1. Mohamed Salah – 70.2% Ownership

Regaining top spot from Cole Palmer, and sitting as the most popular player heading into Gameweek 21 is Mohamed Salah (£13.7m). Liverpool have an interesting clash against Nottingham Forest this week, who rank top for total clean sheets kept so far. It could be an awkward fixture for the Egyptian this week, but based on both his and Liverpool’ form this season, don’t be surprised if he has success.

2. Cole Palmer – 68.9% Ownership

Increasing slightly in terms of ownership, but still dropping below Salah, Cole Palmer (£11.4m) sits as the second highest owned player in the game. Chelsea dropped points against both Ipswich and Fulham recently. However, the Blues play at home against Bournemouth this week. This could mean potential for penalty taker Palmer.

3. Alexander Isak – 54.3% Ownership

Gaining another 8% in ownership since the previous round, Alexander Isak (£9.3m) further cements his position in third. Newcastle have been in scintillating attacking form as of late. Leading their successful attack, Isak has produced a goal in every one of his previous-seven games. Gameweek 21 could well see him add to that tally with a meeting against a poor Wolves defence up next.

4. Bryan Mbeumo – 32.8% Ownership

Bryan Mbeumo (£7.8m) has picked up an additional 5% ownership since the previous round. The Brentford penalty taker produced a jaw-dropping 19 points against Southampton in the previous round, which played a huge role towards his increase in ownership. This week Mbeumo faces Manchester City, which although seemingly tough on paper, could be a another chance for Mbeumo to continue his seasonal form.

5. Chris Wood – 32% Ownership

Nottingham Forest have surprised a lot of the football community this campaign – as they sit third overall in the Premier League. Helping them achieve that was striker Chris Wood (£6.8m). Wood breaks into the top 10 for the first time this season, but he faces Liverpool next, so his potential could well be limited.

The Rest of the Top 10

Dropping out of the top five for the first time this season is Erling Haaland (£14.8m). The Norwegian has scored three times in his previous two matches. This week could see his form continue, with a clash against a ropey Brentford backline.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya (£5.6m), and defenders William Saliba (£6.3m) and Gabriel (£6.4m) keep their place among the top 10. Arsenal clash with Tottenham this week, which could threaten their clean sheet potential. However, the latter two players offer considerable goal threat from set-plays.

Another player who returns among the top 10 most popular is Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m). This could be due to his recent goal in Gameweek 19. Nottingham Forest lay ahead, which could be a great opportunity from both a defensive and offensive perspective.
