In this article we take a look at the top 10 most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 20. Using the Official Fantasy Premier League ownership data we can find out who the fantasy football community are picking ahead of the new round.
Taking a look at the most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 20 can be hugely enlightening for fantasy managers. Knowing who the majority are selecting within their sides can help you make moves in your team ahead of the new round.
Note: Ownership statistics will inevitably change throughout the week
1. Cole Palmer – 68.4% Ownership
Sneaking into top spot ahead of Mohamed Salah since the previous round is Cole Palmer (£11.4m). Whilst arguably playing below the Egyptian this season in terms of performances, Palmer is over £2m cheaper than the Liverpool man. Palmer remains in exceptional form though – hitting 12 goals and six assists in just 18 matches this season. This week he has a great opportunity against Crystal Palace to add to his season tally.
2. Mohamed Salah – 68.3% Ownership
Although sitting as the second most popular player ahead of Gameweek 20, Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) is just 0.1% behind Palmer. So, this could change on any given day in the build up to the deadline. Sitting as the highest scoring player in the game, the Egyptian takes his relentless form into a clash against old rivals Manchester United, a fixture he regularly thrives in.
3. Alexander Isak – 46% Ownership
Becoming more and more popular with each passing week, Alexander Isak (£9.1m) comfortably secures his position as the third most popular player ahead of Gameweek 20. The Newcastle striker has been on a fantastic run of form in his last several matches – hitting a return in all of his last five games. Tottenham have been hit and miss defensively all season and Newcastle go into the round in free-scoring form.
4. David Raya – 31.5% Ownership
Pushing Erling Haaland down into fifth, David Raya (£5.6m) is now the most popular goalkeeper in the game. The Spaniard has helped his Arsenal side keep four clean sheets in their last seven matches. Arsenal face a tricky away tie against Brighton next, but it could still be a match Raya picks up another clean sheet in.
5. Erling Haaland – 31.4% Ownership
Erling Haaland (£14.8m) continues to frustrate FPL managers. The Norwegian has scored just one goal in his previous seven matches. West Ham lay ahead for Manchester City, who rank among the worst sides in the league for several key defensive metrics. To prevent his ownership from taking another dip, Haaland will have to perform this week.
The Rest of the Top 10
Arsenal assets feature heavily once again this week. Both Gabriel (£6.3m) and William Saliba (6.3m) make the list, with the hope that they can keep another clean sheet this week. Both players also have proven goal threat from set-plays, so go into their fixture against Brighton with multiple avenues to points.
Dropping slightly in terms of ownership, but maintaining his position, is Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson (£8.3m). Jackson faces a Crystal Palace side who recently shipped five goals to Arsenal, so it could be a good opportunity for him to recapture his form.
Another player who has lost ownership heading into the new round is Bryan Mbeumo (£7.6m). Brentford meet with Southampton this week, the worst side in the league. So, we could well see the talisman get among the goals.
Losing popularity fast, Pedro Porro (£5.5m) may not be inside the top 10 this time next Gameweek. Tottenham continue to be unpredictable in defence and their flying full-back has failed to start twice recently.
