Most Popular FPL Picks for Gameweek 2

Last modified date

In this article we take a look at the top 10 most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 2. Using the Official Fantasy Premier League ownership data we can find out who the fantasy football community are picking ahead of the new round.

Taking a look at the most popular FPL picks for Gameweek 2 can be hugely enlightening for fantasy managers. Knowing who the majority are selecting within their sides can help you make moves in your team ahead of the second round.

1. Alexander Isak – 60.1% Ownership

Newcastle face Bournemouth this week away from home. The Cherries conceded the sixth most goals last season which could suggest bags of potential for Alexander Isak (£8.5m). The Swede goes into the match with the highest ownership in the game with around 60%.

2. Erling Haaland – 51.2% Ownership

It’s David v Goliath this week as Manchester City come up against newly promoted side Ipswich. The Tractor Boys conceded two or more goals in around a third of their games last season and Erling Haaland (£15m) has the quality to take advantage of that.

3. William Saliba – 40.% Ownership

Arsenal have an interesting test away from home this week. The Gooners may have maintained the best defence in the league last season but they face Aston Villa in Gameweek 2. If centre-back William Saliba (£6m) can keep Ollie Watkins and co quiet then all 40% of his ownership will be rewarded.

4. Cole Palmer – 37.3% Ownership

Chelsea netted two or more goals in their final 10 matches of the 23/24 campaign which could be worth highlighting ahead of the next round. After a tough match against former side Manchester City Cole Palmer (£10.5m) faces much easier opposition with a clash against Wolves next up.

5. Ollie Watkins – 36.5% Ownership

Completing the top five players with the highest ownership this week is Ollie Watkins (£9m). Aston Villa face Arsenal in the next round and should go into it full of confidence. This is because in the last two meetings between the clubs Aston Villa came out as victors.

The Rest of the Top 10

All remaining five picks in the top 10 have more than 30% ownership. One of those players is full-back Pedro Porro (£5.5m). He faces an Everton side who netted the second least goals last season.

Another asset who has good potential this week is Eberechi Eze (£7m). The Crystal Palace penalty taker goes head-to-head with West Ham at home. Also playing at home this week is Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). The Egyptian was the second best player in the league last season for non-penalty expected goal involvement so has the ability to punish an average Brentford defence.

Completing the top 10 is Josko Gvardiol (£6m) who faces promoted side Ipswich and Arsenal midfielder Bukayo Saka (£10m) who faces Aston Villa away from home.
