Notes
- There are plenty of good ‘keeper options from the early games. Matt Freese is one of the more budget-friendly picks, with the Revs yet to score so far this season. I currently have no fallback option. But, I think that’s a sacrifice worth making to be able to afford Leo Messi and some of the premium options in my team.
- In defence, I’ve paired Freese with Nico Cavallo, who should start in place of the injured Kevin O’Toole.
- Kai Wagner has three assists in as many games and is worthy of inclusion this week despite his premium price tag, while Femi Awodesu and Olwethu Makhanya are value clean sheet plays.
- In midfield, several of the usual suspects have away fixtures or come into the weekend off the back of CCC commitments. Anders Dreyer and Marcel Hartel have tough fixtures on paper, but play at home and have demonstrated solid bonus point production.
- The same is true of Federico Bernardeschi, who was one of the first names in my team this week.
- Đorđe Mihailović is another player who’s good for bonus points and should do well despite an away fixture against San Jose. David Da Costa is my final midfield pick, although that is more due to a lack of confidence in the LA Galaxy defence than anything else.
- Upfront, I like Messi’s chances of starting this week, so he gets the armband. Gabriel Pec’s production has been good despite the LA Galaxy’s struggles and is a decent fallback for captaincy should we hear Messi is unlikely to start.
- Christian Benteke completes my team. The DC United striker has scored three goals in as many games to start the season and comes up against arguably one of the weakest teams in the league this week

Notes
- To start off, I don’t like how expensive my team has become. But for now I am starting with it.
- My pricing issues begin with going Lloris and Segura for LAFC. I believe they have the best CS chance of the weekend and because the game is so early they offer a great early bench punt for defence.
- Kai Wagner feels impossible to fade, even with that price-tag, and Haak offers a cheap way into the NYC backline that is against a very suspect New England front line.
- Both Dreyer and Hartel also feel unfadeable based on recent performances and they are against teams that just lost their CCC matchups. Seattle specifically got really banged up in that match against Cruz Azul, and STL could take advantage of that.
- My two bench differentials for midfielder are Maxi Morales and Mihailovic. I like Miha’s matchup a lot, for the same reasons I have Hack on the backline, I like Maxi’s matchup a lot.
- Reus also provides a good fall back option for the Sunday window with a good matchup.
- With Messi now officially back, the forwards felt easy this week.
- I’m tempted to captain Benteke because of that great matchup he has, but if Messi goes anywhere close to 90 against Atlanta, I’d expect goal involvements.
- Baribo is automatic right now and that matchup against Nashville can be a good one as well.

Notes
- Three midday Saturday and Three Sunday matches makes for some choice bench scrub planning.
- I’m expecting to keep Pantemis active for as HOU keeper is a toss-up.
- It’s a big bench and there will be a lot of adjustments on Saturday night into Sunday.
- I’m still targeting team value increases across the board.
- I don’t think Cincy will keep a clean against CLT at home but Orellano is a long-term hold playing high and there could be goals for both here.
- I wish I could get Zaha in but Messi calls as he looks finally ready, if he doesn’t start I will have to go Latte Lath or Suarez and captain most likely.

Notes
- DEF: Kai Wagner (PHI; 8.6m): Kai Wagner is locked in my team this week as he is one of the most attacking defenders and at home vs Nashville.
- MID Forsberg (Toronto 8.7m); he has a good fixture against Orlando this week who are known to let in goals.
- MID: Dreyer (SD 9.1m); At home against a much rotated Columbus makes him a great punt this week.
- FWD: Denis Bouanga (LAFC; 8.3m); Bouanga has a great game this round at home vs Austin and is good value at just 8.3m.
