MLS Fantasy Round 24 Team Reveals

Notes

  • In goal, I’ve gone for Kristijan Kahlina, whom I’ve paired with Tim Ream in defence. Charlotte were under the pump for much of the Cincinnati game, with only Brian Anunga‘s red card shifting momentum in their favour. They definitely seem to be missing Pep Biel’s presence in midfield. However, they have been much stronger at home so far this season and play an RSL side also missing their talisman in Diego Luna.
  • Yohei Takaoka will be my fallback – as with Kahlina and Ream, I’ve paired him with Tristan Blackmon in defence. On paper, there doesn’t look to be many clean sheets in the late games, with Vancouver the best of a bad bunch considering their defensive absences.
  • My other defenders all have high upside this week. Alex Freeman and Dante Sealy are locks given their respective fixtures. I’m slightly cooler on Guilherme Biro given the recent drop-off in Austin’s defensive numbers. But, he’s worth a punt given his attacking potential and the lack of other standout options in defence.
  • In midfield, Anders Dreyer, Carles Gil and Martín Ojeda are all locks, with Ojeda the standout captaincy option should Lionel Messi miss out once again this week.
  • My final two midfield spots go to Evander and Hany Mukhtar. I’m not crazy about either pick; Evander looked lively against Charlotte but Cincinnati ultimately failed to create many clear cut chances without Kévin Denkey, while Nashville have been hot and cold away from home.
  • Philip Zinckernagel and a couple of other differentials are also in my thinking for those final midfield spots.
  • Upfront, it remains to be seen whether Messi will be available against the LA Galaxy, particularly given Inter Miami are in Leagues Cup action the following midweek. However, they play first this weekend, so it’s easy to pivot away from Messi should he not start. If he does, he’s an easy choice for captaincy.
  • Prince Owusu and Brian White complete my forward line. Owusu has been in great form for CF Montréal this season and has a favourable home fixture against DC United, while White also continues to deliver consistent returns and works well from a team structure perspective.

Notes

  • In goal, I’m looking at Kristjan Kahlina on the front end of my keeperoo with a home matchup against Real Salt Lake who’ll be without their talisman Diego Luna. Yohei Takaoka is my fallback should Kahlina fail to keep a clean sheet in the early slate of games.
  • Alex Freeman, Biro and Dante Sealy were all easy inclusions for me this week due to their offensive potential and I also like their chances of a clean sheet.
  • My fourth and fifth defender are currently scrubs.
  • Martin Ojeda was an easy pick this week with 7 seven goals and four assists in his last six appearances for Orlando City. I fancy his chances of getting another double digit haul at home to Sporting Kansas City this weekend.
  • Anders Dreyer, Carles Gil and Philip Zinckernagel were also fairly easy picks this week due to their form and fixture this week.
  • My final midfielder is Evander who faced his former team Portland on the road. Up front, Lionel Messi is and easy lock and captain should he start after he suffered a knock against Necaxa in phase one of leagues cup.
  • I also like Prince Owusu and Luis Muriel this week with both of them having a favourable home matchup.

Notes

  • There is no DGW this week, just three Sunday matches .
  • There are some other competitions underway this week, so, I’m watching line-ups for VAN, Philly etc.
  • Messi is a real question mark, so Suarez on Friday?
  • Zaha has goal involvements from nine matches in a row, so holds the armband for now.
  • I also like CLT at home plus ATX, ORL matchups.

Notes

  • By far the best matchups are Montreal hosting DC and Orlando hosting SKC. The biggest question there is which players you want to target. Montreal should be attacking players, Sealy and Owusu. I would love to own Gallese this week,. But, I think we should load up on Orlando’s attack too. That is why I have Freeman, Muriel, and Ojeda.
  • If Messi isn’t ready to go, I’m captaining Ojeda. Because I’m heavily focusing on those two attacks, the first defence I’m going for is Charlotte against a Luna-less RSL team. If they bust, I will be going with Ocampo and Takaoka.
  • Evander, Zinkernagel, and Dreyer could all smash against struggling teams. While LAFC isn’t necessarily struggling, Gil at home is hard to pass up here as well.
  • If Messi is ready, he’s an easy lock for me. But if I need to find a third forward, Chucky or Navarro provide great options this week as well.
