MLS Fantasy Round 24 Team Reveals

Notes

  • Columbus and Philadelphia play twice in Round 24, with at least four or five of their players locked in my team. This includes captain Cucho Hernández, the in-form Tai Baribo (Julián Carranza who?), Daniel Gázdag, Kai Wagner and probably Rudy Camacho too. I also have Patrick Schulte on the front end of my ‘keeperoo as things stand, although Kristijan Kahlina is also an option in that slot.
  • My fallback goalkeeper will be Hugo Lloris, who I’ve paired with Jesús Murillo in defence.
  • Charlotte have arguably the best single game clean sheet odds this week, so bonus point magnet Adilson Malanda also makes an appearance, while Álvaro Barreal is an expensive scrub.
  • Midfield options are somewhat limited with Lucho Acosta and Riqui Puig both suspended for Round 24. Despite being a major doubt for Round 23, Evander went the distance against St Louis and put up 15 points to boot. The Brazilian was one of the first names in my team outside the DGW players.
  • Elsewhere in midfield, Albert Rusnák looks to have rediscovered the form that convinced Seattle to bring him in from Real Salt Lake. Meanwhile Marcel Hartel had an impressive debut for St Louis, putting up no fewer than three assists against Portland.
  • Marco Reus also dominated off the bench for LA Galaxy and, with Puig out, is also under consideration this week. For now though, I’ve gone with Facundo Torres, who should do well against what looks like a fragile Nashville side.
  • Upfront, there looks to be a few possible partners for Baribo and Cucho. I’ve currently opted for Bouanga, who typically dominates teams at home and faces a Houston side that have struggled on their travels this season.

Notes

  • We have Philly and Columbus on a DGW so it’s really important that we play smart with our double scores. I’ve focused on Wagner, Gazdag, and Baribo for Philly. Both Wagner and Gazdag can go off in a second and Baribo is on incredible form.
  • For Columbus, I haven’t decided if I want to double up with forwards or have Schulte in goal. But, currently I have Camacho in defence (mostly because I don’t think I trust Nancy to start Farsi both games) and Cucho (also my captain) and Rossi. I just think these Columbus fixtures have the chance to be high scoring games so I want to make sure I have a piece of that.
  • I’m targeting the Charlotte defence this week with Kahlina and Ream on the bench. For my fall back I have LAFC with Lloris in goal and Aaron Long. Both those matchups, hosting Atlanta and Houston, are probably the best bet for a CS this week.
  • I don’t see my midfield staying here, but I really want to target the rivalry game in Portland this week. Usually they are fun games to start, but Portland’s tendency to have high scoring thrillers at home makes me want both Rusnak and Evander. That being said, Evander will be without his first choice forwards in front of him, so he will be relying on Mason Toye to show up.
  • I have Lucho on my bench because I like that matchup, but I’m not sure if I can trust his minutes or this Cincy attack right now.
  • My final midfielder is currently Hartel who is hosting LAG on Sunday. It would be wonderful to scrub him completely. But after taking most sets against Portland, I think Hartel really has a chance to pop on Sunday with LAG up-and-down road form.

Notes

  • PHI and COL start the week and have the only DGW, Sporting KC have the bye.
  • It will be a busy week for scrubs but Davis on Bye will produce one auto-sub.
  • I like CLTFC defence at home to ATL but can scrub Kahlina if Schulte does the business.
  • LA is full of talent on both squads now, I hope Reuss gets added soon.
  • My bench is full of Philly with a tough first matchup.

Notes

  • DEF: Julian Gressel (MIA; 8.7m); Julian Gressel has scored or provided an assist in seven of the last eight games. With Suárez in attack, Gressel and Inter Miami will have more attacking firepower at their disposal. They also have a great fixture this week vs Chicago Fire FC.
  • MID: Evander (POR:16.7 M); Evander is high for shots in the last couple of games and has a decent matchup this week vs Seattle Sounders. He is a given in my line-up after five goals and six assists in last seven games.
  • FWD: Cucho Hernández (CLB; 13.8m): Cucho Hernández has been unstoppable this season. In his last nine games, he has amassed an amazing nine goals and five assists. I’m expecting Hernández to feast this DGW against Philadelphia Union and New York City FC.
