MLS Fantasy Round 23 Team Reveals

Notes

  • I’ve gone for Matt Freese on the front end of my ‘keeperoo, with NYCFC the most likely team from the early kick offs to keep a clean sheet. Gavin Beavers looks to have the #1 jersey for RSL now if Leagues Cup is anything to go by and will be my fallback. Although, I may pivot to Steve Clark should NYCFC concede early in their game against Chicago.
  • In defence, I’ve paired Freese and Beavers with Thiago Martins and Justen Glad, respectively.
  • I’ve also gone with Jordi Alba, who has two goals and an assist in his last four MLS games. However, I’m not confident Inter Miami will keep a clean sheet against FC Cincinnati, particularly if Lucho Acosta is fit to start. So, Alba may yet make way for a Charlotte or Houston defender.
  • Maya Yoshida is my final defensive pick. The LA Galaxy man should do well at both ends of the pitch at home to Atlanta. That said, Yoshida is a prime scrub candidate (along with Nate Jones) should my bench hit.
  • Riqui Puig is the second of my three LA Galaxy picks this week and a prime contender for captaincy.
  • Santi Rodríguez was another easy addition given the visit of Chicago, while Héctor Herrera’s recent bonus point production alone makes him worthy of inclusion.
  • Evander and Lucho are also easy picks given their Fantasy production so far this season, providing both players have recovered from their respective injuries. However, with doubts about Lucho’s fitness in particular, one of Hany Mukhtar or Albert Rusnák may yet make my final squad.
  • Upfront, Chicho Arango and Gabriel Pec are both locks in my team given their fixtures. Christian Benteke currently occupies my final forward berth. Although, Jonathan Rodríguez and Luis Suárez are also in my thoughts.

Notes

  • I think the best CS chance of the weekend is with NYC hosting Chicago. That is why I have Freeze and Martins on my bench.
  • The best in the late window is RSL hosting SJE, which is why my fallback is Vera and Beavers. Mosquera is acting as a late fallback option that I am really hoping to scrub.
  • With the defensive struggles Cincinnati are having, I love this matchup for Miami. Alba has been vital to their attack and Diego Gomez has been in incredible form. I’m considering Suarez as well as my bench forward. I’m currently on Benteke there, but that could easily change.
  • LAG hosting Atlanta is such a tasty matchup, I can’t resist playing all three big names in Puig, Paintsil, and Pec. I even have the armband on Pec because of how good he is, especially at home.
  • Another matchup I love is Portland hosting STL. Evander is potentially hurt, but I have him and JRod on my team currently. Depending on news during the week, Hector Herrera is also a good option for Houston.
  • My only away player is Lucho. When he is fit and going he is practically fixture proof and Miami seems to like to let a few goals in.

Notes

  • Four teams are out with Leagues Cup semi-finals and finals this week.
  • LAFC, COL, PHI, CLB, like LAG and POR have home matches this weekend.
  • CLT are well rested and reinforced against NYRB which should be a fun matchup where CLT have done well at home.
  • MIA vs CIN has some big hitters but no Messi.
  • I am going with a best two out of three from the bench strategy this week.

Notes

  • DEF: Julian Gressel (MIA; 8.7m); Julian Gressel took up some of the attacking load in the last few weeks, scoring or providing an assist in seven of the last eight games. With Suárez in attack, Gressel and Inter Miami will have more attacking firepower at their disposal. They also have a intriguing home game against FC Cincinnati.
  • MID: Luciano Acosta (CIN; 16.5m): With 212 total fantasy points, Luciano Acosta leads all players and is a must-have this week. Acosta scored 28 points in Round 13, 29 points in Round 18, and 16 points in Round 20 in FC Cincinnati’s previous games. In this gw Lucho should be considered an “essential” player.
  • MID: Evander (POR:16.2m); Evander is high for shots in the last couple of games and has a decent matchup this week vs St. Louis City SC. He is a given in my line-up after four goals and five assists in the last six games.
  • MID: Riqui Puig (LA; 13.7m) Riqui Puig bagged 22 points last gameweek and he topped double-digit fantasy points last gw and up against Atlanta United FC makes him a main stay in my team.
