  • There look to be plenty of viable ‘keepers and defenders this round. In goal, I’ve gone with Carlos Coronel on the front end of my ‘keeperoo with Stefan Frei as my fallback. I expect Drake Callender and Yohei Takaoka will also be popular this week. However, I’m not a fan of Inter Miami defensive picks outside of the offensively minded Julian Gressel and Jordi Alba, while I prefer to use my three Vancouver spots elsewhere.
  • In defence, Gressel and Kai Wagner have solid offensive potential and are close to no-brainers this week given they both play twice at home. The same is true of Ranko Veselinović and Miki Yamane, who are more clean sheet plays. Although, the LA Galaxy defender has also recorded three assists in his last four matches. Eric Miller is my scrub candidate.
  • Like Round 20, we once again have to navigate suspension risks with popular midfield picks this week, with Lucho Acosta and Riqui Puig one yellow card from a ban. Both make my team but are benched for that reason.
  • Elsewhere, Ryan Gauld and Lewis Morgan also have two home games and are easy inclusions for me this week. Morgan, in particular, should be on all set pieces for the New York Red Bulls in the absence of Emil Forsberg and John Tolkin.
  • Facundo Torres has four double-digit Fantasy returns in his last six games and is my final midfield pick. He can be quite boom or bust though (his other scores in that period were five and three points), and would normally be a bench play were Lucho and Puig not at risk of suspension.
  • There look to be plenty of forward options too this week. Cucho Hernández is a lock based on his and Columbus’ current form, and will almost certainly be my captain.
  • I’ve paired Cucho with Diego Rossi for similar reasons. Although, he may yet make way for one of Denis Bouanga or Gabriel Pec, provided Dejan Joveljic is available for the LA Galaxy.
  • Brian White adds to my pool of in-form strikers and benched suspension risks, and is the final piece of my Vancouver triple-up.

  • I think the best CS chances this DGW fall to the NYRB, which I say knowing they are usually a trap defence to jump onto. Regardless I have Coronel as my bench keeper and Dylan Nealis as one of my starting defenders.
  • Miami have two really interesting options from an offensive perspective. That is why I have Gressel (who might become Alba) and heavily considering Suarez over Pec for my bench spot.
  • I feel similarly about Philadelphia which is why I am starting Wagner (even though he is on YCW) and am considering Gazdag as a bench option.
  • Midfielders are a little bit tricky this week. Lucho has some tasty matchups, but he is nursing an injury and is on YCW. Puig also has some wonderful matchups, but is on YCW too. I’m also concerned that Jove’s injury really hurts LAG’s attacking potential.
  • Rusnak, Gauld and Morgan are all on double home games, even if a few are tough matchups. Morgan specifically is a fun pick because he should be on all set pieces with Tolkin and Forsberg both out.
  • Even after the dumpster fire that was last week, it is hard not to pick Bouanga at home and I expect to see goals in their match away to Seattle. My reasoning for (and worries about) Pec is along the same lines as Puig. He could easily become Suarez or even a fun punt on someone like Musa or White.
  • Cucho was the first person in my team and probably one of the easiest captain picks of the year. That offense is on fire and he is home and away to two defences that love to give up goals. The only question I have is whether or not I should also have Rossi in my team.

Notes

  • It’s a big Double Gameweek with Portland and DC with one match each.
  • I prefer five at the back with two scrubs to get two of three off the bench.
  • CLTFC have two tough matchups on the road but I can scrub Kahlina if Wednesday goes poorly.
  • There are some great captain options with Acosta, Bouganga and Cucho. But, I think Acosta bounces back this week.
  • Miami have two good matchups but likely I will only go with Gressel.
  • Abada is a worthy CLTFC punt, has a hot hand but two road matchups.

  • DEF: Steven Moreira (CLB; 9.5m); If Columbus can string together a clean sheet this week, a Crew defender would be a great . In the 5-1 victory over New England in Round 19, Steven Moreira netted a goal. In three of his previous five starts, he has earned eight points or more.
  • MID: Luciano Acosta (CIN; 16.8m): With 211 total fantasy points, Luciano Acosta leads all players and is an absolute need this week. Acosta erupted for 28 points in Round 13, 29 points in Round 18 and 16 points in round 20 of FC Cincinnati’s two previous DGWs. In this dgw, Lucho should be viewed as a “essential “ player.
  • FWD: Cucho Hernández (CLB; 13.3m): Cucho Hernández has been unstoppable since returning to the Columbus starting line-up in Round 17. In his last seven games, he has amassed an amazing eight goals and five assists. I’m expecting Hernández to feast on Charlotte FC and Atlanta United FC.
  • FWD: Denis Bouanga (LAFC:17.2m): LAFC’s star striker scored 12 points in gw20, and in his last eight games, he has scored six goals and provided four assists. Bouanga keeps firing shots at a rapid pace, and I can anticipate that to continue this weekend.

  • Round 22 is another DGW for every team except DC United and Portland Timbers. It’s also the last round before a one month break.
  • In goal, I’m going ‘chalk’ in goal this week with Carlos Coronel on the front end of my keeperoo with two home games. My fallback will be Stefan Frei with Sounders also on a double home.
  • In defence, I’m doubling up on Miami defenders. Jordi Alba and Julian Gressel both make my team due to their offensive potential.
  • I’m also considering Kai Wagner despite Philadelphia’s struggles this season. I may still fade him so I can run two defensive scrubs. Miki Yamane of LA Galaxy takes my final defender spot with three assists in his last four appearances. He’s also got two home games this round.
  • In midfield, Mateusz Bogusz and Ryan Gauld are both locks in my team this week due to their form and favourable matchups.
  • Facundo Torres and Albert Rusnak are also currently in my team due to their production in recent weeks. I’m also looking to take advantage of them being differential picks.
  • My final midfielder is currently Riqui Puig who will most likely be a bench play considering that he’s on yellow card watch.
  • Up front, Cucho and Bouanga have once again made my team with their form and production this season. I may end up captaining the former as he’s facing Charlotte at home and Atlanta on the road, two games he should do well in.
  • Brian White is my final forward pick. The Vancouver attacker has produced six goals in the last three rounds and with two home matchups I expect that streak to continue. He is, like Puig, on yellow card watch so that’s something to look out for when picking him.
