MLS Fantasy Round 19 Top Picks

With the new set of Major League Soccer fixtures approaching we take a look at the MLS Fantasy Round 19 top picks. X is full of some of the best fantasy managers in the world. Because of that we bring in expert @dmpwright to reel off some of the best options for the big round ahead.

Looking at the MLS Fantasy Round 19 top picks can be extremely useful to managers. Focusing on some of the best assets for the new week could help with some of the most important decisions in the game like transfers and captaincy.

Round 19

After a gruelling double gameweek, we’re back to a single gameweek for Round 19 – the penultimate one before the scheduled Leagues Cup break at the end of July. Real Salt Lake are the team on a bye this week if you’re in need of scrubs.

Top targets- John Tolkin, New York Red Bulls – Defender, $6.8m

John Tolkin is slowly but surely starting to rediscover his Fantasy mojo after a slow start to the season. Tolkin will continue to be on all set pieces if Emil Forsberg misses out again due to injury and, with Christian Benteke suspended following his red card against Houston, the New York Red Bulls should stand a good chance of keeping a clean sheet against an offensively stunted DC United team.

Cristian Espinoza, San Jose Earthquakes – Midfielder, $13.4m

The emerging consensus is that Hernán López is starting to run the San Jose attack following his arrival from Godoy Cruz in April. However, this isn’t born out from a Fantasy perspective, with San Jose veteran Cristian Espinoza outscoring López by nine points since his full debut.

Indeed, Espinoza seems to have the higher points ‘ceiling’ (for now), recording three double-digit returns since Round 12. With the normally high-octane California Clásico on the billing this weekend and San Jose likely to benefit from a new manager bounce following Monday’s dismissal of Luchi Gonzalez, Espinoza should be a good pickup.

Denis Bouanga, Los Angeles FC – Forward, $15.9m

Don’t overthink this one. Denis Bouanga should be one of the first names in your team this week and is arguably the best captaincy option. Bouanga is now top for xG+xA among forwards (0.94 per game) and has 13 goals and eight assists on the season so far, with more than 75% of his attacking returns have come at home, where LAFC face off against a resurgent but defensively obliging Colorado Rapids side.

Differential- Sunusi Ibrahim, CF Montreal – Forward, $5.9m

Neither Montreal nor Philadelphia are in a good place at the moment, with both teams coming into this weekend’s matchup off the back of humbling defeats. Despite his team’s travails, Sunusi Ibrahim has put in a few decent performances in recent weeks, scoring five goals since forcing his way into the Montreal starting XI in Round 13, and could be an interesting differential for Round 19.

However, with several of Montreal’s offensive pieces – including Matías Cóccaro and Josef Martínez – returning to first team action, you’ll need to watch line-ups to ensure Ibrahim starts against Philadelphia.
