MLS Fantasy Round 16 team reveals

The brand new campaign continues! We take a look at MLS Fantasy Round 16 team reveals from some of the most experienced managers around. They share their thoughts on their teams going into the new round including captaincy.

Looking at some MLS Fantasy Round 16 team reveals can be extremely beneficial for new managers. Seeing some of the best assets, who managers will be looking to captain and their general thoughts can help bring clarity within our own teams. So, lets take a look at some Round 16 team reveals.

@dmpwright

Notes

  • My team for Round 16 is subject to quite a bit of change depending on the team LAFC put out on Wednesday night, with the reigning MLS champions likely to rotate following the CONCACAF Champions League Final.
  • In goal, I have gone with Djordje Petrović, who stands a good chance of a clean sheet at home to manager-less Inter Miami. I haven’t ruled out selecting John McCarthy in place of Petrović should he start against Atlanta United, while Roman Bürki is the best of a bad bunch of fallback goalkeeper options.
  • In defence, I have selected the offensive-minded Brooks Lennon and Diego Palacios (again, providing he starts on Wednesday) to capitalise on Atlanta and LAFC’s double gameweek, respectively.
  • Elsewhere, I’ve paired Petrović with DeJuan Jones, while Orlando’s Kyle Smith has a favourable home matchup against Colorado. Tim Parker is a fallback option I’m hoping to scrub for one of my bench players.
  • In midfield, Thiago Almada is essential given Atlanta’s double gameweek and will be my captain for this round, barring any rotation. Carles Gil and Lucas Zelarayán are also locks in my team given their recent exploits.
  • My other two midfield spots are up for grabs: Lorenzo Insigne and Hany Mukthtar have both had excellent fantasy production of late. Although I’m having second thoughts on Insigne following Walker Zimmerman’s return to the Nashville line-up at the weekend.
  • Eduard Löwen, Lucho Acosta and Xherdan Shaqiri are also in my thoughts for midfield picks – Providing they all start on Wednesday, Dénis Bouanga, Carlos Vela and Giorgos Giakoumakis are fairly straightforward pickups this round, with Bouanga an outside bet for captaincy.
  • Dániel Sallói, Jefferson Savarino, Cucho Hernández and whoever starts upfront for New England are also worth considering at the forward position.

@Mahoney

Notes

  • Round 16 was 144 points and a massive red arrow to 1620 without Zelarayan captain.
  • Its a DGW for ATL and LAFC so I am leaving room for the GK swap with McCarthy after the first game.
  • Sticking with home team SGW players with an exception for Carranza who is on fire.
  • Almada Captain though I am tempted by LAFC forward like Vela. We shall see.

Notes

  • LAFC and Atlanta both have a double GW this round, I have therefore tripled up on their players with McCarthy, Long and Bouanga from LAFC and Lennon, Almada and Giakoumakis from Atlanta.
  • I have Jonathan Sirois as my starting goalkeeper if McCarthy doesn’t score well against Atlanta. Montreal have four straight clean sheets at home and stand a good chance of another ahead of a visit from Minnesota.
  • Alvaro Barreal and DeJuan Jones are my other defenders this week with both having good chances of clean sheet and attacking returns this week.
  • Alongside Almada, I’ve opted for Lucas Zelarayan, Charles Gil, Eduard Löwen and Luciano Acosta. Facundo Torres is also in my thoughts with a home game against Colorado this weekend.
  • My last forward pick is a punt on SKC’s Daniel Salloi with three goals in his last six appearances. The Hungarian is very likely to be involved if SKC were to score a couple against Austin FC.
  • Thiago Almada is likely to be my captain this week.

Notes

  • Having conceded less than one goal per game this season, the LAFC defence goes into the double Gameweek with the MLS’ third best clean sheet odds (2.75) for their fixture versus Atlanta. Given that both their games end before St. Louis kick-off, I’m doubling-up with McCarthy and Palacios, with Bürki and Parker ready to come in if need be.
  • Not only do New England boast MLS-leading clean sheet odds (2.37), but their 1.53 winning odds also lead the league! Gil has returned 32 points in his last three starts, 21 of which came in double Gameweek 15 last time out. Need more support for his selection? Only Almada can top his 43 key passes so far this season.
  • St. Louis City’s home record (22 goals scored in eight games) and LA Galaxy’s away record (15 goals conceded in eight games) make for an exciting MLS Fantasy clash, Eduard Löwen looking to build upon a run of three consecutive double-figure hauls. His 7.71 points-per-game ranks seventh among all players, topping both Gazdag and Gil.
  • Atlanta’s front-man, Giorgos Giakoumakis, has recorded a goal every 75.3 minutes in the MLS this season (one goal every 58.3 minutes over last four games alone); now THAT sounds like double Gameweek gold. Winning odds of 1.70 for their second fixture of the round rank third in the MLS this Gameweek- an easy selection!

@melvin

  • Defence: Brooks Lennon (ATL; 10.7m) : A favourable dgw fixture vs DC United and he got six assists last season. He presents an ideal opportunity for points on both sides of the pitch.
  • Midfield: Hany Mukhtar (NSH; 14.3m); Mukhtar got an incredible 20-pointer last dgw and Nashville have a winnable game vs Toronto. This makes him a great pick again this round. Mukhtar is also high with the stats on shots, shots on target, key passes and crosses in MLS this season.
  • Midfield: Thiago Almada (ATL; 14.3m), another Premium midfielder, he has seven goals and eight assists in 14 games this season. Almada also averages over 10.07 PPG, making him a good option this round.
  • Forwards: Denis Bouanga (LAFC; 11.7m), he has 10 goals and two assists in 12 games. LAFC have a DGW and Bouanga is the focal point of their attack.
  • My captain is likely to be one of Almada or Bouanga.

Notes

  • Goalkeepers – A question mark hangs over McCarthy ($7.8m), especially coming off the back of a poor CCL performance. Plus the last time LAFC had a double, he missed the first game (all be it, a cautionary rotation due to a knock). Either way, he will probably start on my bench and I will go for Burki ($9.2m) in my starting XI.
  • Defenders – Lennon ($10.7m) was the first defender on my team-sheet, and one of the LAFC defenders will take a place on my bench, currently Hollingshead ($6.6m).
  • Vancouver have been pretty leaky as of late, and with their Canadian Championship match against CF Montreal in mid-week, I have decided to bet against them by going with Barreal ($12.1m).
  • Jones ($9.9m) has a decent home game against a Miami team who sacked their manager recently, whilst McGraw ($8.3m) has the late game on Sunday so can easily be scrubbed if my bench hits.
  • Midfielders – My captaincy hasn’t moved from Almada ($14.3m) this week, and he is locked in my line up alongside Lowen ($10.7m) and Gil ($11.5m) in midfield.
  • Zelarayan ($12.7m) plays away at a Chicago team this week who have a mid-week US Open Cup game against Houston, whilst the late game on Sunday for Evander ($9.6m) is also appealing for a scrub option.
  • Forwards – On the bench I currently have Giakoumakis ($9.6m) and Bouanga ($11.7m) who both double this week, whilst Salloi ($8.2m) is a high upside / possible scrub option in my starting XI.
