Notes

  • Goalkeepers and defenders will likely be a crapshoot this week. In goal, I’m running a partial ‘keeperoo in the hope that Ryan Meara saves a penalty (!) or generally accumulates enough points before the start of Maarten Paes’ game an hour later. He faces a Minnesota side with several absences due to international callups.
  • In defence, most of my picks are away players. While listed as a defender, Cameron Harper typically lines up in midfield for the New York Red Bulls and has scored three goals in as many appearances. Although he missed both of their Round 15 games. I will probably switch to a 5-3-2 autoroo should he be ruled out again this week.
  • Elsewhere, Sam Junqua, Jackson Ragen and Tomas Totland are my other non-scrub defensive picks. I’m mostly clean sheet hunting with Junqua and Ragen, while Totland is in there for his offensive threat.
  • In midfield, I feel like Evander, Carles Gil, Eduard Löwen and Lewis Morgan all pick themselves this week given the matchups. Evander, Gil and Morgan are all viable captaincy picks, with the Brazilian just shading it for me over Morgan (who is likely to be on all set pieces in John Tolkin and Emil Forsberg’s absence) by virtue of his recent performances.
  • The fifth midfield spot is where you can potentially differentiate this week. I’m currently leaning towards Albert Rusnák, who has had a few goal involvements in recent weeks and typically has an ok points floor.
  • Upfront, both João Klauss and Jonathan Rodríguez are locks. The third forward position is another opportunity to differentiate. I’ve gone with Jesús Ferreira (who, all things being equal, should generate more bonus points than his striking counterpart Petar Musa due to his deeper-lying role), as I’m expecting FC Dallas to do well at both ends of the pitch when they play Minnesota.

Notes

  • This week is so weird, I know I will be changing a lot of my team based on line-ups.
  • It makes sense to start with either Ivacic or NYRB keeper on your bench. I have Ivacic because of his pen save last week so at the least there is a little price rise there.
  • I honestly don’t see any CS this week so I’m going with a two scrub back five. Alex Roldan and Junqua in theory has the potential for attacking returns, and NYRB has an okay chance at a CS so that is why I have him there. That is the same reasoning I have for Meara.
  • My midfield felt fairly easy to pick. Without Forsberg, Morgan will be on most set pieces. My other three starters – Gil, Loewen and Evadner – also have set pieces on their side. I have Rusnak on my bench because I don’t expect much out of the SKC backline. If Seattle are going to score on the run of play, Rusnak will be involved.
  • Similarly, the forwards sort of picked themselves this week. I expect goals in STL vs POR so Klauss and JRod should be involved.
  • My third forward as of now is Ferreira because he is on set pieces and Minnesota are missing enough players Dallas could cause a major problem.
  • I haven’t decided on my captain yet, but I’m leaning towards either Evander or Morgan. Morgan would be a fun differential pick this week, but let’s see how brave I am.

Notes

  • Round 16 is a crazy week with just four matches and lots of players on international duty.
  • I like the Dallas defence and Portland attack this week.
  • NE vs RB should be interesting and I’m hoping for goals with RB having a lot on.
  • My captain is likely to be Evander though Gil could be a shout.
  • I might add more Seattle defence.

Notes

  • GK; Maarten Paes (DAL;8.5); Minnesota are missing many of their starters so Paes is a good option this round.
  • MID: Evander (POR:13.5M); Evander is high for shots in the last couple of games and has a decent matchup this week vs STL. He is a given in my line-up after five games with three goals and three assists.
  • MID: Carles Gil (NER; 13m);  Gil has averaged 6.71 points per game this season and scored a nice goal last gw vs Nashville SC. He is high for key passes so far this season in MLS. He is nailed in my team this week vs New York Red Bulls.
