Notes

  • In goal, Oscar Ustari is a must-own for the price rise alone if he starts for Inter Miami. Although, I’m not expecting them to keep a clean sheet.
  • Novak Mićović looks set to start for the LA Galaxy and is among the cheapest GKs with a realistic shot at a clean sheet, making him likely the back end of my ‘keeperoo.
  • If last season taught us anything, it’s that most defenders in MLS Fantasy have little upside under the new points scoring system. I’ve therefore cheaped out and invested my funds elsewhere, with Nouhou currently my most expensive defender. Watch out for Morris Duggan, who may get a start for Minnesota against LAFC.
  • Midfield options look wide open at the time of writing, with Lucho Acosta and Evander both doubtful for the opening round of matches.
  • Atlanta have invested significantly during the offseason and have a favourable home fixture in the opening round.
  • Saba Lobjanidze currently makes my team over prodigal son Miguel Almirón, while Albert Rusnák, Martín Ojeda and Osman Bukari also look like good value picks.
  • David Martínez was primed to have a breakout season before the news broke that LAFC were finalising the signing of Cengiz Under. Although, Martinez should still be good to go this weekend.
  • Upfront, Lionel Messi is a lock for captaincy providing he starts at the weekend.
  • Christian Benteke and Gabriel Pec also have favourable home fixtures to start the season and currently make my XI. Although, I haven’t ruled out the returning Brandon Vázquez or Chicho Arango.

Notes

  • I’m sticking with one keeper this round, and Ustari at $4m is too cheap of an enabler to go anywhere else.
  • I’m going to go with an Autoroo this week for budget reasons, sticking with Hector Martinez (another cheap enabler), Jon Gallagher who will be playing very advanced, and Orellano who, if his contract issues get resolved, will be playing almost as a 10 alongside Evander. Speaking of Evander, he had an incredible 30-minute substitute appearance midweek. If he is starting, he is for sure in my team and I would consider putting the armband on him as well.
  • Miggy also should smash in his first game back in MLS, at home to Montreal.
  • Chambost and D. Martinez both will be playing in favourable home matchups and are both on the cheaper end.
  • McGlynn similarly should have a great home matchup and a monopoly of set pieces.
  • Both Messi and Pec picked themselves: two of the best forwards with two great home matchups. If Messi is rested because of midweek CCC, I’ll move to armband to Evander.
  • The third forward is a fun way to get some differentiation this week. I really like Houston’s matchup against Dallas this week and I think Ponce could get multiple goal involvement’s and rack up bonus points. Going him over someone like Benteke also gives me $.5 extra money in the back to provide flexibility.

Notes

  • I will try to build early team value and will watch line-ups closely for low price starters.
  • Ustari started the CCC match and may be in line for the first games.
  • Patryick Agye and Ream are my CLT touches.
  • Messi leads the line, no surprise there.
  • I like the LA teams, but prefer going for lower priced options.
  • Welcome back Miggy and I do think ATL could be strong this week.
  • Hany had a strong finish in 2024 and NE could get him off to a hot start.

Notes

  • MID: Evander (FC Cincinnati, 9.0M): Evander comes into the week fresh after a strong season with Portland timbers last year, and would be a great addition to FC Cincinnati attack.
  • FWD: Messi (MIA; 10M); Lionel Messi is a must-have player when he’s in the match day squad. The GOAT won the Landon Donovan MVP last season and feel he is essential to have in your team.
  • MID: Lucho (FC Dallas,8.5M); Lucho is away in the Texas derby, but in this Dallas system, he is going to thrive, and he was a strong fantasy asset last year, so I feel like he is going to continue performing.
  • FWD: Bouanga (LAFC,8.8M); Bouanga plays a good fixture against Minnesota and was a great pick last year. He should be one of the best picks to include in your squad this up coming gameweek.
