Marc Jobling: Gameweek 4 Team Reveal
Each Gameweek brings an FPL community team reveal. As a result, that person gives insight into their transfers, captaincy and future plans.
Ahead of Gameweek 4, it’s the turn of Marc Jobling to tell us what is happening to his team.
Hi Marc and thanks for the team reveal. How did Gameweek 3 go?
Beginning with Mohamed Salah instead of Bukayo Saka has finally paid off, as both the Liverpool star and Erling Haaland are now far ahead of everyone else on 41 points.
As the captain’s armband was on Man City’s hat-trick hero, they combined for 51 of my 79 total.
It meant I headed into the international break on a slight rise, sitting at 1.24 million.
What does your defence look like?
It’s horrific. Apart from Trent Alexander-Arnold and his three successive shut-outs, the rest are waiting desperately for a Wildcard.
I was barely able to field a trio last time. Micky van de Ven and Ben Johnson made way in autosubs for Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ zero points and Lewis Hall’s late cameo.
Three of these are about to face Arsenal, Brighton and Man United, while I still doubt Hall will start.
I’m just hoping for another week of very few overall clean sheets – except for Dean Henderson!
Meanwhile, what about your midfield and attack?
The fixtures look better here. I’m confident in Alexander Isak versus Wolves, although five of Newcastle’s last six Molineux trips have ended as a draw. He’s already aware of mass FPL sales and says he enjoys punishing such managers.
I have excessive Fulham attackers at home to West Ham. Rodrigo Muniz has the second-most shots inside the box (11) yet remains goalless – does he face the Hammers’ leaky defence from last year, or is Julen Lopetegui fixing things?
As for Morgan Rogers, he’s another to have passed the eye test but not delivered points. A potential bargain, all we need is team-mate Ollie Watkins to start finishing the golden chances he sets up.
So what are your transfer plans for Gameweek 4 and beyond?
In this time of volatile price changes, I’ve once again made an early transfer. I hate doing it. Last time, Christopher Nkunku made way before dropping several times and for this Gameweek I responded to Bryan Mbeumo’s brace and Anthony Gordon’s imminent drop by switching them.
This was almost two weeks ago, on the Sunday night. Why did I bring in Mbeumo and his nasty fixtures instead of Joao Pedro’s two glorious ones? Good question. I do wonder what that was about. I think it’s because I intend to have Mbeumo and not Pedro on my Gameweek 6 Wildcard, so grabbing that price rise was important.
But not having the highly-owned Brazilian at home to Ipswich is going to hurt. Just have to hope it’s one of many FPL occasions where the most-bought player blanks. We’ve seen so many Gameweeks where the player everyone flocks towards is a letdown.
Finally, what about captaincy?
And this is a very tough call. I think Salah has both the fixture and form, being my natural Gameweek 4 captain when planning in pre-season.
It’s hard to go against a guy on consecutive hat-tricks though. Especially when he’s at home and you know he’ll be a runaway leader amongst the FPL community. Let’s go with the Norwegian.
